i got a 02 taurus am-fm radio with cd player from the junk yard. i installed it in my 04 taurus (have am-fm only). all wiring went in without any trouble. problem is the 04 radio and control panel have a light that says pass side air bag on or off. now the dash air bag light is on. is there anyway i can make the light go off, without reinstalling the original radio?

Not a good idea. If the air bag light is on that means the system probably won't work in an accident.

you probably cnat use that radio in there w.out disarming the air bag system... ditch it man.

the air bag system is now disabled, put the other radio back in immediatly.

there was a email that went out to all circuit city installers about this issue a while back.....it COMPLETELY disables the side and front air bag systems.

The light should go out, if it does not, disconnect the battery for a few hours and reconnect it.

I must be from another 04' taurus or sable, (and no you can not put an aftermarket adapter in...sorry)

Are you saying that putting in an aftermarket radio disables the air bag system? I have an '03 Taurus and I am putting in an aftermarket CD radio using the kit of course. Will this cause problems?

Why is it everytime I buy a car, they change one little thing that screws me out of something. I buy a '96 F-150 and they went to OBD-II so my code reader doesn't work. Now I find out I can't pull my factory radio! Why hath thou forsaken me?!

well that is not fun. can i take the cd unit out of the 02 and put in the 04. the printed circuit boards look the same, only exception is the air bag lite.

If you can't find a way to fabricate the light into the old style radio(sorry I have no idea what the 04' looks like with wireing and such), just go with the cd-changer in the console. That is if Ford didn't change the console design much for that year. You don't want to have to go into your trunk every time to change a few cds.
