Just swapped in a 2004 complete motor into my 2000, but i have had the thing apart for over 2 yrs and can't seem to figure out the vacuum routing. Also the 04 motor has a slightly different intake manifold. If I could get a few engine bay shots of the vac hoses on both the 2000 and 2004 model taurus i would greatly appreciate it. :) Also please make sure it is the vulcan engine and not the duratec :D

I ended up using the 2000 intake manifold, everything else is from the 04 motor :) Time to bust out the throttle body cleaner. :D

I found the issue. The fel-pro intake gasket didn't create a good seal. I have now applied RTV gasket maker to both sides of the gasket. Problem solved. I also used throttle body cleaner to locate the leak. A little trick i learned in Engine performance and diagnostics class :)
