Hello everyone, just a simple maybe dumb question too many but here
I go. I have a 02 taurus ses and i want to install a new gentex mirror with temp, compass and auto dimming. My question is how can i do it myself and hopefully does anyone know how i can find out if ford installs the entire wire harness or do i have to run the wires. Can the harness be under the liner or do only certain cars leave the line with the harness.
and btw saw the poll for repairs. just had a fuel pump and assembly and some
fuel pump regulator replaced after being stranded in NH. thank god for ESP
worth every penny just too many things to go wrong.

I looked into doing this and was unable to locate a mirror. However, I remember somebody telling me that if you have the power moonroof, the wiring is already there for the mirror and if you don't have the moonroof I guess that makes it a pretty big pain to install.

I have my aftermarket Gentex mirror tapped into the fuse panel. I really don't like the idea of this

but it was the only thing I could figure other than splicing wires, etc. I have a power moonroof and believe somebody said there is a wire harness for a dimming mirror. Is this true? Where is this wire harness? I have a 2000 Sable. Any help would be appreciated

Yep, that was me. Before I got the new sable, I looked at a couple of Pre-Owned Certified ones, and one had almost all the options, but no Mirror for what ever reason, I think it was a 2000 or 2001.

Anyway, I went inside to the parts department and asked the guy how much it would be, and how hard it was to install.

Anyway, I viewed the schematics and there is a connector in the front for cars equipped with moonroofs. There is also one without, but more of a pain in the rear, much more.

Anyway, call a Lincoln-Mercury Dealer and tell them your delima, I have physically seen the schematic and parts, they exist.

would i be able to do something like this on the 95? i think it would be really cool. could it work from an older lincoln or something also? so that way i can get it from a junk yard.

As far as I know, the 95 and 2000+ stuff is different. It depends on the mirror. The Lincolns had them since the early 90's Mercury Grand Marquis and Ford Crown Vic's have had them since 96, and the early ones are different than the later ones.

You need the one that displays the Compass in the upper right, not just the auto dim mirror. As you know, the current Gen 4 mirrors DO NOT show temperature, just the compass. There is a aftermarket one that would, but there is an extra temp sensor that must be hooked up for this, not a simple plug and play as the Ford one.
