  1. Anyone know what this is called???? 2000 Ford Taurus exhaust hanger broken

    Maintenance and Repair
That seems like a JY part to me. Ford may not even sell it anymore.
  2. Class Action Against Ford Flex

    Taurus and Sable General Discussion
100k miles, but IMO that's too long. I'd agree with Jeff that a time interval is more important than mileage (unless you're driving more than 100k miles every three years). A few years used the "Specialty Green" P-HOAT coolant, the tail end of 2009 G5 production through 2011 MY cars. Stuff's...

It's worth noting the original post is largely filled with exaggeration and faux outrage. It isn't a cheap procedure, but $5000 is for an engine replacement, not a water pump job. That's closer to $1k. The pump is also not designed to fail into the engine, it's designed to leak outside through a...
  4. I think I need (finally) a new PS rack...

    Maintenance and Repair
Three port is for the Variable Assist Power Steering feature. It was an $104 option back then for the 3.0, standard on the 3.8. If the steering feel changes based on your speed, you've got it, but I would hazard a guess you don't have it.
  5. Class Action Against Ford Flex

    Taurus and Sable General Discussion
Pumps don't necessarily wear out. Most people here with '01+ Duratec 30's haven't had to replace the pump, because moving it off the belt drive helped cut down on bearing wear.
  6. Non-Ford Company repair shop/garage charging full retail for parts?

    Odds and Ends
Obviously labor costs vary, but I had the whole system on my '03 replaced for about $1100 in 2016. There was definitely some overcharging in your case.
  7. Why does the trunk take 3 or 4 tries to open?

    Maintenance and Repair
Yes, that should be fine. I'd recommend not touching those, they can snap back rather powerfully.
  8. Why does the trunk take 3 or 4 tries to open?

    Maintenance and Repair
WD-40 is good for getting gunk out but it's not a long term lubricant. I'd look at spraying some white lithium grease into the latch assembly for best results.
  9. 2002 SES DOHC Rear Window issue

    Maintenance and Repair
Do you use them a lot? To see if they're stuck, you can try opening the door, and then hold down the switch as you slam the door. That can jostle loose the motor.
  10. 2011 SHO possible trunk leak

5th and 6th Gen Maintenance and Repair
Get in the trunk with a flashlight, close it, and have a friend take a hose to the car.

Federal regulations today hamper most styling - beltlines and hood lines have to be higher for pedestrian and crash standards.
  12. What Have You Done To Your Bull Today?

    Taurus and Sable General Discussion
Ended up with an 18” crack in the 2010’s windshield yesterday. Rock hit near the corner and the crack kept spreading throughout the day. At least I’ve got zero deductible glass on that one, so I’ve already scheduled the replacement. First time I’ve ever had to make an insurance claim. And...
  13. 3.5L and 3.7L water pump failure

5th and 6th Gen Maintenance and Repair
Unfortunately it comes back to Ford being cash poor in the late 2000s. The design spec for the Cyclone mandated that it had to fit anywhere the Duratec 30 had, and that meant they had to save space somewhere.
  14. 2010+ Taurus Encyclopedia

5th and 6th Gen Maintenance and Repair
Order guides for 2016-2019 (end of production) attached. Shocking no one, Ford seriously de-contented the 2019s. Removed dual note horn Removed engine NVH cover Removed center console lamp Thicker carpet replaced with a thinner alternative Removed Rear Power Sunshade on SHO and Limited...
  15. 3.5L and 3.7L water pump failure

5th and 6th Gen Maintenance and Repair
Ford designed in a channel to allow the pump to leak outward when it fails. It's not like they said "eh, screw em, let it ruin the engine". Sometimes that hole gets plugged, though.
  16. New 2019 Taurus SEL Owner

    Introduction Forum
Given that you're buying a car in the final months of production (which ended on March 1st), it's possible Ford changed the spec or ran out and didn't care enough to order more. There won't be a recall on a cosmetic issue like that, what a silly notion.
  17. The White Falcon's 2003 Taurus SES Deluxe (Holly)

    Taurus and Sable Project Log
Broke 180k on the way to work today. Did some work on the stereo this weekend, and the rear deck speakers are working again. Still need to replace the moonroof control switch, and I’ll probably be doing tires in the fall along with a transmission service.
  18. Slightly confused

    Those are not OEM parts.
  19. FoMoCo And GM Merger?

The Renault-FCA merger isn't happening, which is a shame if only for the fact that we could have had a lot of "Axis of Subprime Credit" jokes. Analysts make this stuff up to sell to the suckers who buy it from them.
  20. Failing Transaxle or PCM?

    Maintenance and Repair
If I had a ton of codes appear while the car continued to shift fine, I sure would be suspicious of the electronics and not the mechanicals. Did you break a serpentine belt?
