  1. Got the good ol P0442

    Maintenance and Repair
I’ve had this P0442 small evap leak detected. I need to get it inspected soon and I’ve read that the filler neck vent line is usually the culprit. There is a rubber hose that runs to a hard line headed to the front of the car. I’m guessing that is going to the egr. This hose looks rotted out and...
  2. 03 taurus 3.0 Vulcan oil pan leak.

    Engine and Drivetrain
I got the leak from the filter to stop. I had to reseat the gasket and it stopped leaking. I like the piece to divert the oil from the starter. That’s one of those simple things I feel dumb for not thinking about myself. The leak hitting my exhaust is from the front of the pan. It just happens o...
  3. 03 taurus 3.0 Vulcan oil pan leak.

    Engine and Drivetrain
I can’t remember the brand, but I got the expensive per formed gasket this last time. I thought about the seals going bad. The front should be fine as the metal under it is dry. I can’t see the rear seal without taking everything back apart. I read about the rtv in the corners after I had...
  4. Is my torque wrench wrong?

    Engine and Drivetrain
I’m familiar with the tools. I had that issue on a larger torque wrench where I couldn’t feel the click, but it was clicking off. This one is a 1/4 drive torque wrench. The click is nice and prominent, but I’m bending a washer before it clicks.
  5. Is my torque wrench wrong?

    Engine and Drivetrain
I had to go back and double check that I didn’t mess the post up. Lol! It’s in/lbs. I’m just not feeling the click until way too far into it.
  6. 03 taurus 3.0 Vulcan oil pan leak.

    Engine and Drivetrain
I’m about to start pulling my hair out over this. I started getting an oil leak out of the pan a year or so ago. Oil would drip out of the front and rest on the exhaust once it cooled down. When I started it back up and got back to operating temps, my car would start smoking. I was working out...
  7. Is my torque wrench wrong?

    Engine and Drivetrain
I’m replacing the oil pan and gasket on my 03 taurus 3.0. I have my torque wrench set a tad low at 105 inch lbs. this feels like a lot of torque for an oil pan. I put this torque on a bolt on the body and bent the washer before it clicked off. Is it really that much torque or is my wrench not...
  8. More transmission fun!!

    Engine and Drivetrain
Last week, my torque converter sheared the splines on my way back to Houston from Lake Charles. Changed it out. Got everything back together. Yes, I used a torque wrench on the pan bolts. Ran it through the gears a few times to fill and check level. Everything is good. No leaks, level is...
  9. 03 Vulcan trans removal

    Engine and Drivetrain
My symptoms were sudden. Driving on the highway at 75 mph, then nothing. Like it dropped into neutral. I thought about replacing the seals while I was there, but again, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. So I left it. This is more of a time constraint job anyway. I’m working out of town and had...

  14. Funny story and a question.

    Maintenance and Repair
Well, I’ve been watching it for a couple of weeks now and monitoring it with dash command. It hasn’t done it since. I think I was just out of gas. I’ve been watching the fuel flow rates and fuel pressure. I’m wondering if the new fuel pump they put in before I bought it was one pulled from a...

  17. Funny story and a question.

    Maintenance and Repair
She just hit 90k, so she’s got plenty left in her. I should add that the dude I bought the car from said they changed the fuel pump just before selling it. I wonder if something could be wrong or not installed properly causing this mess.
