  1. 1994 GL Speedometer Gear

    Maintenance and Repair
Are your wheels/tires OEM spec? Oversized wheels will register slower speeds than actual.
  2. just bought '99 Sable Wagon LE w/99K :) Keys don't unlock door but fob works

    Maintenance and Repair
9 times out of 10, the service calls I went on for this problem (as well as at the shop) are caused by the lack of use of the keys in the outside locks. People who own fob-equipped vehicles love using the fob and neglect using their keys, let alone maintaining the locks. LIBERALLY spray WD-40...
  3. What grinds your gears?

Sorry to hear that, but dads usually know what's best. How much was the wagon, and how much money did you have saved up to buy it? Also, why did the car have to be towed instead of him just driving it to you? I smell untold details about this "perfect" wagon. Portland to Spokane isn't that bad...
  4. Problem with Anti Theft

    Maintenance and Repair
First thing to do is to have a good automotive locksmith check it out. The PATS keys do fail, as does the RF receiver ring surrounding the ignition lock cylinder in the steering column. Many times, it's a quick fix by cutting a new transponder key and having it programmed into the onboard...
  5. I think I need (finally) a new PS rack...

    Maintenance and Repair
One month short of its 30th birthday, Old Faithful has a power steering rack which leaks like a sieve now. I seem to remember, years ago, a thread which I can't find which stated there were two different racks for the Taurus - one had two fluid hose connections, the other had three. Why the...
  6. Loud Tapping Coming from engine

    Engine and Drivetrain
Welcome to the forum. Please be careful when posting. You're responding to a ten-year-old thread, the last post to which was seven years ago telling us the problem was solved.
  7. Roll call on high mileage vulcan 3.0 Taurus's

    Maintenance and Repair
It's up to you. I owned a '65 Corvair that was burning a quart every 200 miles, but when oil was 19¢ a quart back in 1972 it was no big deal...although the oil smoke in the cabin was BAD when I ran the heater. I did what any sharp-minded teenager did, in that situation...I sold the car to my...
  8. What Have You Done To Your Bull Today?

    Taurus and Sable General Discussion
Finally got the parts I needed (new radiator and power steering pump with reservoir) and as usual, Rock Auto had the best prices. I got tired of replacing radiators every four or five years when a side tank would split open, and they had an all-aluminum unit guaranteed to fit my model so I...
  9. Used Taurus/Sable Finds - Post them here!

    Taurus and Sable General Discussion
If y'all could get it for $2300-2400, it'd be worth it for the rear bumper alone! I'm looking for another, only five years after scoring one with help from BullGeek and the Major. THAT search took more than four years! The bumpers gassed out by around 2000, and the least little tap would...
  10. Cheap heater hose assembly replacement options?

    Maintenance and Repair
I really don't care what YOU think it is. Those guys designed the engine in my car, going on 200,000 miles and running fine the way they designed it. You can mess with yours all you want to. When you design an engine a car manufacturer puts into production, let me know. Until then, I'll trust...

^+2. i'm 63 and would drive that Sable anytime, if and when my wagon ever quits. Thing is, I love that car too much and it just won't die - thank the Lord! I actually now get offers at the Publix parking lot if I'm ever interested in selling it. :)
  12. Rough idle

    Maintenance and Repair
Happy to hear you finally sussed the cause of the glitches! What turned you onto the alternator as the cause? With 150K miles, you're just getting the car broken in. Sorry to hear you went the "toss parts at it" route to figure it out, but on the bright side - you needn't worry about doing...
  13. Live, on TV - a Gen1 Taurus wagon!

Sure! - they may be not so easy to find, but half of the fun in owning an older car is the hunt. :)
  14. Live, on TV - a Gen1 Taurus wagon!

You're up against probabilities at this point. FoMoCo MIGHT be able to tell you how many Taurus LX wagons, fully optioned including the keypad lock feature, in red were produced on spec (produced at random for shipment to various dealers around the country). Who knows if that combo ever was...
  15. Live, on TV - a Gen1 Taurus wagon!

    Taurus and Sable General Discussion
I'm content with the Sable/SHO combo analog cluster I made for mine, but sure would like to find another 1990-'91 SHO 140MPH speedo. The instrument face is wearing off the one I have, and it looks like hell.

Hang around. The day will come when I finally have to sell mine. I just hope that ain't for another 20 years or so! :D
  18. Live, on TV - a Gen1 Taurus wagon!

I did a double-take watching this episode of "In the Heat of the Night" just now...a renegade killer is driving this sweet wagon all over town. (No, it isn't mine!) Appears to be a 1990 or 1991 model; I will gladly accept correction - if someone can stand watching Carroll O'Connor for 45...
  19. What Have You Done To Your Bull Today?

    Taurus and Sable General Discussion
I grew up in the 1960s, started driving in 1971 and old habits never die! I check tire pressure the first of every month, and all fluid levels every Saturday morning. It may sound a bit much, but I get a lot of years and mileage out of my cars.

Parts yards are the only source unless you find a good one still on the road. Probably more up north; down south where I live the sun baked them after 20 years or so. Bull Geek and Major found one for me, think it was in Tennessee.
