  1. Slight misfire?

5th and 6th Gen Maintenance and Repair
Run mode 6 and check for the misfires. It will only put a code out if the misfires exceed a threshold. One of my old posts had a write up on this. https://www.taurusclub.com/forum/114-5th-6th-gen-maintenance-repair/176627-bump-shift-problem-solved.html
  2. 2008 Oil change intervals

5th and 6th Gen Maintenance and Repair
I did mine every 6K but my mileage was 80 percent highway. She had 283K on her when I upgraded to a 2017 and she never burnt a quart of oil in that whole time.
  3. A note about taking care of your car

5th and 6th Gen Maintenance and Repair
I just picked up a 2017 Limited after driving my 2008 SEL to 283K miles. It was time for something newer but I wanted to say all you need to do to these cars for high mileage is keep up with basic maintenance. I myself liked the Motorcraft partial synthetic oil . I never missed an oil change...
  4. An unusual issue, can't find a solid answer.

5th and 6th Gen Maintenance and Repair
Get a scan tool and run mode 6 testing. See if any misfires occurred. Remember there has to be min number for the check engine light to come on. If you see misfires take it from there. These coils start to go and after time and need to be replaced. I have changed every one of mine but I...
  5. Sidestepping when accelerating

5th and 6th Gen Maintenance and Repair
I had something similar happen and it turned out out my control arm mounting bolts were loose. The procedure for tightening them says to do it under load (weight of car). The guy who did mine did it while it was up on the rack. They had worked them selves loose. Scary.
  6. 2008 coil bolt question

5th and 6th Gen Maintenance and Repair
I see no problem with that. Just take your time and drill straight.
  7. Typical front suspension issues as mileage increases

5th and 6th Gen Maintenance and Repair
I did 232K before I changed any suspension parts on my 2008 Taurus. At that point I did control arms, tie rods, and struts. Up to 252K now.
  8. What Engine Oil do you use?

5th and 6th Gen Maintenance and Repair
I have used the Motorcraft partial synthetic (Walmart 16.99) and Motorcraft filter since day one. 264K and still going.
  9. 2008 Quick Struts installed

5th and 6th Gen Maintenance and Repair
This video I found most helpful https://youtu.be/0VTMI-qzSZc I have no other photos to share in doing this. Sorry. I would say pull the whole assemble (knuckle and shock) out of the wheel assembly because you will have to pound it apart if it's stuck together.
  10. Thoughts on Transmission Fluid Change and Color of Fluid

5th and 6th Gen Maintenance and Repair
That's what I did the first two times. It was exactly the same each time.
  11. Thoughts on Transmission Fluid Change and Color of Fluid

5th and 6th Gen Maintenance and Repair
I drain the fluid and get about 4.5 quarts each time. I do it again in a week and then again in a week. Seems to work for me. 237K miles to prove it. My 08 takes Mercon V. Mercon LV can NOT be used in it's place so make sure you get the right stuff for your year.
  12. Steering issue with pull

5th and 6th Gen Maintenance and Repair
I was hoping someone might have some insight to a steering issue I am having. Recently I changed my control Arms, ball joints, tie rod ends, struts, and got my car realigned. I now have this weird problem where I feel the car pull slightly left when accelerating and pull right when I release...
  13. How do you remove the front bearings?

5th and 6th Gen Maintenance and Repair
Here it is. https://youtu.be/Z54PVXuCO6U You need to remove the axle nut and push back the cv axle. The knuckle stays in place. Otherwise you would have to remove the tie rod, strut, ball joint and everything else.
  14. How do you remove the front bearings?

5th and 6th Gen Maintenance and Repair
The bearings can be removed without removing the knuckle. Youtube 2008 Taurus wheel bearing and there is a great vide of someone doing it. I can't get to the link at this moment.
  15. 2008 Quick Struts installed

5th and 6th Gen Maintenance and Repair
So I changed my 2008 Taurus SEL struts this pastweekend. I used the Monroe quick struts as I have had good luck with themin the past. If anyone plans on doing this themselves I will tell you afew things to be aware of. TheTie rod and ball joint both have a 21mm bolt. Get a ratcheting type...
  16. Fluttering at low rpm and at load

5th and 6th Gen Maintenance and Repair
Problem has been solved and it’s strange how it all worked out. After exhaustive troubleshooting and testing I spoke to a transmission guy and he said that the Ford transmissions get sensitive to dirty fluid and could cause misfires in the engine. Mine wasnot too bad but he said to change it...
  17. Fluttering at low rpm and at load

5th and 6th Gen Maintenance and Repair
You are definitely correct on that. The 08 and 09 had no protection from a coil reverse voltage reaching back to PCM if the coil failed. My mechanic said he thinks it's the injector after doing a leak down test and compression test. He said the cylinders all still had great compression and...
  18. Fluttering at low rpm and at load

5th and 6th Gen Maintenance and Repair
So I scoped out my injectors using an oscilloscope and those all look good. spark is definitely not the problem. I'm thinking weak fuel injector at this point. I'm having a local mechanic who is pretty good with diagnostics look at it Monday.
  19. changing out spark plugs soon

5th and 6th Gen Maintenance and Repair
Make sure you have the torque sequence of the intake manifold too. I put blue painter tape of the vacuum lines and write matching number on the connections. That ensures you remember where every hose goes and the blue is really easy to see. If you are changing the plugs I recommend changing...
  20. Fluttering at low rpm and at load

5th and 6th Gen Maintenance and Repair
Fluttering at low rpm and at load - Solved Trying to track down a problem here and was hoping someonemight might have some insight: My 2008 Taurus (234K Miles) recently began to have fluctuating RPMS at low speed (35 - 40 mph) and at load (Going up mild hills). I broke out the OBD2 scanner...
