  1. 3.0 OHV love it or hate it?

    Taurus and Sable General Discussion
The 3.0L Vulcan has a tendency to blow head gaskets... Are you doing the head gasket yourself? Mine's loosing compression into the cooling system. I got a quote for minimum $1500. :(
  2. Led Strips Headlights

    Aesthetics, Interior, Wheels and Tires
These look great, the problem with LED strips is there's no spec comparisons to make before you buy. I've seen some that look as bright as Christmas lights, and few aftermarket ones come close to Audi's without costing $$$. Do you have a price or make/model information on yours? Or even a...
  3. 3.0 OHV love it or hate it?

    Taurus and Sable General Discussion
The 3.0 Vulcan is definitely an under-performer and the gas consumption is poor by today's standards. The only positive on the report card is the emissions have been excellent, mine's over 10 years old and still doesn't register on the measuring equipment for Ontario's DriveClean program. It's...
  4. Help...power Window Stuck Down 2002 Taurus

    Maintenance and Repair
QUOTE (jw89sho @ Apr 1 2010, 12:34 AM) The bolts are recessed. There are 3 holes, through which you can see the bolt heads. You need a slim or deep 3/8" socket set to reach them. Once the motor's off the glass can be lifted and the motor reattached. Now to glass is up I can fix the problem at...
  5. Front Doors Won't Latch...

    Maintenance and Repair
I've seen this a lot in the cold weather, sometimes it helps to pull and release the exterior handle. I ought to remove the door panel and lube them properly as spraying from the door jam does nothing. Is it possible to get the moisture barrier off without tearing it?
  6. Meguires Plastic-x, Check Out My Headlights!

    Detailing and Cleaning
Just got these, a two-step process, don't know how they compare to the plastic-X or Scratch-X I used a cloth but a buffer would have been easier. I only spent about 10 minutes each side. The bottles were $7.75 each but there's a lifetime supply. which got me from here: to here: Comparison...
  7. Who Has A 99 Taurus?

    Taurus and Sable General Discussion
Add to that a Gas tank, living north of the rust belt it's rotted out on the rear edge :( and it sounds like the control arms (or swaybar bushings) are dead...

  12. All-wheel-drive Taurus

    Engine and Drivetrain
Great idea, if you've got the talent & resources. Here's a concept from years ago for inspiration... sorry for the pic quality, that's all I've got - no other details but I assume it's awd.
  13. The Official 2008 Taurus/Sable 5th Generation Topic!

    Taurus and Sable General Discussion
Now why in the hell would ford be stupid enough to bring the mondeo here when it would be in the same class as the fusion???[/b] The new Mondeo isn't looking too shabby... Looks like the Fusion's big brother... I like it!
  14. Coolant Recovery Tank

    Maintenance and Repair
Lots more info here: Coolant Leak Near The Coolant Tank On 99 Taurus Very common problem, but an easy fix although the retainer bolt at the back is prone to rusting.
  15. The Results

    Aesthetics, Interior, Wheels and Tires
By harness, do you mean relays? I'm about to do this mod on my Gen 3 too as I've had good results with relays on other vehicles. Did you wire the feed directly from the battery +ve? Did you get a good ground or reuse the headlight's original one? Are the lenses available without the whole...
  16. Coolant Leak Near The Coolant Tank On 99 Taurus

    Maintenance and Repair
Mine too! Just found it today. With the engine hot there was a small spray of steam from the top of the tank. Parts dept quoted C$65. Mine has less than 100,000 km (62,000 miles)
  17. Gen 3 Wagon Middle Brake Light

    Wanted to Buy
Finally got one from the dealer for $150 Cdn. The reports from dealer service dept about how difficult it would be to replace without breaking trim etc was BS - took me 10 mins, max, including cleaning the crap out of the opening and waxing it before installing the new one. I also epoxy'd the...
  18. Gen 3 Wagon Middle Brake Light

    Wanted to Buy
I was so focused on sourcing the part I didn't realize that the middle brake is mounted on the trunk and not the roof so it should be slightly easier, but thanks for the info regarding the headliner - I've dealt with that a bit while trying to fix the rear seatbelts. So I don't suppose your...
  19. Seatbelts

    Maintenance and Repair
These are particularly sloppy. The rear ones (wagon) barely recoil which means they're often slack when the kids use them - which is really dangerous  Is there any way to lube these or strengthen the recoil springs? The dealer wants $$$ for replacements (which will probably do the same...

Yup, black one preferred.... anyone? Also, does anyone have any experience pulling the headliner down in a wagon? Anything to look out for? Thanks, John
