ice445 I just do the drain and fill while the front end is on ramps, this makes it so that the reservoir is the highest point in the system due to geometry. Then just squeeze some hoses and start it up, add if the level drops.

The Lin Cont INTECH has a metal screw cap on top of the high point of the coolant tubes over the Alt. Must have the cap on the tank while filling the coolant right up to the top of the fitting, and screwing the cap back on. If you do not have the cap on the coolant tank, the coolant just runs down to the tank until it runs over. Have to drain the coolant to replace the belt.

Jeff K I have never bled the cooling systems in any car I have ever owned. Just refill the degas tank or, in the old days, non pressurized overflow tank, drove the car and refilled until the level stays constant. Usually 2 or 3 drive cycles to get the level to stabilize.

kestas Same here. I'll let the car warm up after service for the first top off. After that, just top off every morning until it takes no more.

sheila Fill the degas tank completely full of 50/50 mix. Squeeze/milk gently all the upper coolant hoses you can access. Top off coolant tank completely full. Perform a couple of drive cycles and check level when cool like in the morning after sitting overnight. If needed, fill to the full mark on the tank. No special bleed procedure needed. The "de-gas" tank does it.

Bleeding the air from the cooling system

Greetings-I am currently in the process of replacing the lower radiator hose on my 1997 Taurus GL Vulcan (engine-3.0) and I am wondering if anyone can tell me how to properly bleed the system of air. I don't recall doing so when I replaced the radiator a few years back, but it has been a while. Other sites recommend leaving the cap to the radiator off, but I would think it would make more sense on my car to run the car with the lid off the plastic degas tank (where you actually refill and top off the coolant). I'm not a mechanic though. Any advice that you can give would be greatly appreciated since my other hoses are not in the best of shape and I don't want the system to be under too much pressure and cause these to fail also. Thanks.
