|Jimmy C||What I am trying to clarify is since my ABS and TC are not coming on start up and when I disconnected the BFL sensor the Red Dash did go out so is it definitely the Sensor or can it be the ABS module ?or Both . The sensor does come out but i dont think i could by it separately . I was able to test it with DVM while attached to the Reservoir but only got continuity in two front pins . Is that an indication that the Sensor is not working. There is a thread that I read where they changed everything and it wound up being the ABS module. I am just trying to narrow it down as far as possible. Any other tips I would appreciate it .|

|Jimmy C||Is there a way to Test the Brake fluid sensor . I tried using DVM to test sensor two front wires / pins on connector have continuity . The abs and TC not coming on dpes that mean it is the ABS module ?|

red e brake light stays on abs and tc not coming on during system check
I am having the same problem. My red brake light on dash would not go off so I checked the em switch and even disconnected it still stayed on . However when I disconnected the three wire connector on the Brake Fluid Sensor on Brake Reservor the red Brake light on the dash went off . But the abs and tc lights that come on momentarily when you start up are not coming on . The brake fluid is good the brakes in general seem good . I was able to get the brake fluid sensor out of the reservor . It has three pins that attach to the connector . Is it possible it is just the brake fluid sensor. I tested the sensor with a dvm and I get continuity in the two first pins but not the back pin. Or am i going to go first replace the MC and if that dont do it start on the ABS. Which so far does not feel like it is working but I havnt really slammed on the brake pedal to see if I get a pulsation. I Will hook up the wires to the brake reservoir and see if the actual ABS is working even the the light is not coming on. I would appreciate any advice on where I should go from here and how to test the brake sensor .Thank You

ABS light stays on
I just purchased a 2001 Ford Taurus wagon about a month ago. The ABS light was on and has stayed on. the seller told me that the part was on order and they would call me when it came in - same thing - thanks for the info. A couple of other minor bugs - the doors don't want to latch - I think that's fixed, though, found the spare tire... Let's hope he gets the part.
Other than that it's a great vehicle - only 65k miles, one owner.

|cwl111286||It is only the red brake light, the one that comes on when you hit the ebrake. The abs seems to work fine. I do know that the car does its initial diag when turned on. This happened about a minute or 2 after starting the car and starting to drive away. I did do the wd-40 thing it has not happened again yet so i hope it was something that simple. I have not checked the brake lights yet i will do that asap. Thank you all for your help. I am having other issues right now but will post those elsewhere on the form for they are not brake related.|

|sheila||Cw, may try spraying (with wd-40)/replacing the plunger switch on the e-brake arm above the pedal. If not that, problem may lie with the sensor (and/or it's wiring) in the master cylinder reservoir. Iirc, the sensor is not replaceable and you would need to replace the reservoir. Is your amber abs light illuminating, or the red brake light? If the abs light is not coming on, you needn't concern yourself with the abs module. You are aware that both the red brake light and amber abs light (if equipped) will illuminate briefly prior starting the car with the ignition key in the "on" ("run") position. Are all 3 rear brake lights working when you tap the pedal?|

OReilly used to offer module rebuilding services through their stores. I'm not sure what types of modules they support or even if they still do it or the cost. Basically, you bring them your module and they box it up and send it to some rebuilder and then it is sent back to the store once done and you pick it up and reinstall. I would check with them and see if they still offer this service or maybe they can give you the name of the vendor they use. I'd probably suspect that it is Cardone doing the service for them. I have seen a few listings on Rockauto for rebuild services too for your item....might check them out as well.

The first thing I did was check the ebrake. I pushed it in and popped it back out. The light only comes on for a few seconds not enough time for me to see if thats what shut it off or not. I will check the fluid level while I'm doing my plugs, wires and oil.
Thank you for the quick response.
