I have a v6 87 taurus LX this just started some time it will run ok first thing in the morning but as soon as it warms up and i stop motere gos up down almost at the point of stalling thats when i kick it in to nutral so it wil stop also my trans is starting to go feels real bad like the gears are slugish some times while driving it slips while moving after some time it feels like my breaks are on any help thanks the trans is automatic.
The idle problem sounds like a dirty IAC. It's the canister shaped thing on the upper intake. You can take it off and clean it, and that may solve your problem.

On the transmission, it sounds to me like it's starting to go. Have you checked the fluid level/condition?

It's best to clean the IAC with Throttle Body Cleaner.

It means you're getting too much air or not enough gas into the rear cylinders.

Thanks. If you owned my car how would you go about trying to fix it?

Did you ever figure out what was wrong with the idle and the error codes. This is the same problem I have been having exactly... am getting frustrated bc shop is telling me nothing is wrong!

I had that on my 2003 Taurus, it turned out to be the idle control valve. It sits on top to the back of the engine, held in place by two bolts. Swapped it out in about 5 minutes - costs about $40.00. That fixed my idle problem, my check engine light was still on - it was reporting o2 sensor problem, but it was really the idle control valve. I disconnected the battery for a few minutes, reconnected - no check engine light.

I have an idle problem. Both cold and warm engine, the idle speed oscillates down, up, down, up, and if left alone it may have more and more dramatic swings until it dies. I put it in neutral at stops quite often which helps. Giving it gas to bring idle up to about 1300 helps. It runs great otherwise, no check engine light, good mileage. From Click & Clack and reading here I think it's the IAC solenoid. I took it off and the passage is open between chambers, I think that's correct if the return spring is pushing. When I connect the solenoid to 12V it clicks a little but the shaft doesn't move. I think it's dead. I'll buy a new one and post my results.

Yep, best to replace it when it acts up. Or dies, as it seems to have in your case.
