If you think about it, we all profile people and believe stereotypes without thinking about it. When was the last time you saw a nice looking BMW or a Mercedes? What were your thoughts? Exactly. They must be rich. My neighbors live in an averare size house and have 3 kids in college. In other words, they have no money. His wife has a 2003 BMW 740il that gets parked in the garage next to his rusty 1994 Camry. They saved up for years for their prided Bimmer and barely have just enough cash to get their kids through school.

Well everyone was doing 80mph, you broke out and did 85mph he nabbed you. Here in N.J. on the Parkway everyone doe's 75mph, but go 1mph over that, they will pull you over. Just the luck of the draw

Let me tell the rest of the details and perhaps it will make things clear for some of you.

First. My write-up is about law enforcement profiling cars because of distintive markings, signs and looks. It is not about myself speeding and getting a ticket. I already said that I was speeding and I am going to driving school. Did the crime pay the time. I told my story to tell you how do I got to find out about profiling by law enforcement. I tried keeping it simple but obviosly it did not work.

Second. Profiling is being done in california for a good reason and that is a fact which I will explain later. I just want to inform my fellow CA member of the extent of it. I still do not believe is right thought.

Was my jellybean profile because of its looks? I have to say maybe. Of the three cars I mention before my car was the only one with distintive charateristics, the other two where just regular cars. We were all driving at the same speed and all three were next to each other but I was the only one pulled-over.

Remember that my attorney friends were the ones which mention profiling. Apparently is wide spreed troughtout the county. Why? Gangs. Some of the california gangs have enter street racing, which is a big problem right now. ONCE AGAIN, THIS IS FOR CALIFORNIA MEMBERS ONLY. My area has 3 major car clubs: Hondas, Ford mustangs and the classics (Pre 1975). I have talked to many of them over the last few weeks and their comments are very similar. Police is targeting them for no apperant reason or for minor infractions. Most of time dealing with visible mods or loud mufflers.

I had race on and off the track for almost half of my life. That is how I got my name (lucky). I am retired now from racing due to business and family. I know very well about speed and its consecuences. I do believe that racing on traffic street is STUPID AND IRRESPONSIBLE. I am talking about high speeds with total disregar for other drivers, in and our of traffic and things like that. I don't do that.

I purchased my new house two years ago. I have been driving that freeway at that speed for about that long. Why? they just drive that fast. I was run-over many time while driving at the speed limit. I found that driving at the FREEWAY SPEED it was just safer. Slow drivers are the major cause of accident on THIS freeway. I have driven with the cops next to me or in front of me at that speed many times and I have never once seen anyone ticket for following the freeway flow. As fas as know as long as you are not driving 85 plus or in/out traffic or following to close, never seen anybody ticket before. So it did came to a big surprise when it happenned to me.

Anyway my fellow member as I said before, do not be surprice if you get pull over for no apperant reason. The reason is obvious. YOU GOT THE LOOK.

so the three major car clubs in your area, ford mustang, honduh and the classics, your 99 taurus fits in.... where? i highly doubt, any cop in his right mind would think twice about pulling any taurus over if they are doing 20+ over the limit. you know I bet if you were doing 85 past a mustang, low and behold, i bet you would get pulled over for speeding. And didn't you say you got into the fast lane, to pass someone who was going to slow, maybe they noticed the cop? I know profiling happens.. Ask any teen male who has ever drivin a flashy car, but thats besides the point... Had you been doin 5 or 10 over the limit and got nabbed, then you might have a case here, but in all reality, you can't even start to talk about being profiled when you were pulled over.

What would you reaction have been, had one of the other cars got pulled over? i mean since its unfair to be profiled in any sense, would you feel guilty?

oh and lets see... 3 cars speeding "at the same speed" hmm obviously the cop has to pick one... lets see... when was that time you went fishing, and caught every fish in the sea?

Everyone gets profiled. It is human nature to look for patterns and what stands out gets noticed. You were driving faster than the others when you were notice. Many years ago I had a girlfriend who live on Lido Island in Newport Beach; an exclusive area in a very affluent town. I got pulled over 3 times over the first few months of visiting my girlfriend late at night. The reasons for pulling me over were petty, but the cops were doing their job when some in not driving a Mercedes, BMW or Ferrari around there you get noticed. After they got used to seeing my car, I stopped getting pulled over.

I did, once. One was a seabass, the other was a mackerel. But the salmon, the salmon was the most delicious.

Neither one. They are old friends of mine. Good source of information. I am fixing lucky 13 as a hobby.

I don't think she did. I could probably guess she freak out because the line leader exit the freeway. She was not even looking at the road. I had a close eye on her and I am 99.9% sure she did not see him.

My car does not look like any other jellybean. I does stands out as it is. So thank you, you just validated my point.

This is the point. If you are in california consider yourself warned, if you are not, just read and learn.

ADDITIONAL DISCUSSION IS POINTLESS.

Well, it's easy to speculate on WHY you got pulled over, personally my money is on the fact that the ONLY reason you STOOD out from everyone else is the fact that you were going 5 MPH faster than everyone else, as you stated. Try sitting somewhere overlooking a freeway sometime, you can EASILY pick out the people EXCEEDING the flow of traffic. Profiling is illegal, but law enforcement personnel do look for certain characteristics, commonly associated with criminal elements(car types, clothing, actions, etc, etc.). The reason some people are "pulled over" for seemingly minor or "b.s." infractions is because the offices is more than likely conducting an "investigative stop". Meaning that the officer saw something that didn't seem right, makes a legal traffic stop and investigates all occupants of the vehicle. I am not sure wha the actual numbers are but somewhere around 60% of drug arrests are made through traffic stops. So if "profiling" helps keep dope off the streets and locks up those responsible, use it. Best way to keep from being "profiled" and pulled over.........OBEY THE TRAFFIC LAWS. Any questions?

My bus driver told me a story in 8th grade when she was overseas (where I don't remember) she went rent a car she wanted something cheap but the only car they had left was a red Alfa Romeo Spyder convertible so she took it. she left the rental car place and was drving the limit when she saw blue lights in the mirror she pulled over immidatly the cop came up to her and said "I'm sorry I pulled you over but we always see americans in exotic cars like this coming hear to speed, I already called 3 backup units to help pull you over". she got a police escort to the DMV and they cleared her name of the ticket

My uncle clams that he was followed all the time in the 70's when he owned a red 78' Dodge Magnum with a 400 4-barrel under the hood he bought it brand new and recalls be followed by cops all the time he always drove the limit except for one trip over 130MPH
The point is cops profile now matter what they tell you they claim cool cars look "suspisous" espically with young drivers tinted windows also get their attenton because wanted men use them so no one can see them.
