Wow, that is crazy Alex!

I just had my fluid flushed at the Lincoln-Mercury dealer before I went out to Bob's last month... the fluid they put in isn't really very red - it almost looks clear! Do you think they put some kind of synthetic in or something?? It still looks perfect and has several thousand miles on it now, but I thought that was weird that it was basically clear looking...

I think the orange and green is the neck gasket on the filter. The SHO one is a bit longer.

As an aside on my '91 Aero I did the first part but ran three gallons thru also as a home flush. Then put a new filter in and topped off the fluid.

Normal change interval is 30k for fluid and filter. I recommend 15k if using a dino ATX fluid or 30K if using synthetic.

I've had a 1/2" drain plug kit for the last two years. Never installed it as if you do the pan right then there is really no mess.

I need to do this pretty soon.

Paul... your opinion on changing tranny fluid in my car? 120,000 miles, fluid likely not changed for a while as it's brown but I don't know how long...it had close to 100 on it when I bought it. Is it not gonna work when I change the fluid?

05 Lincoln LS V8 - black/black, tints, stock (for now).

99 Mercury Sable LS (retired) - green/gray, Duratec, 135000 mi, G4 Taurus wheels, stereo, 11.6" brakes, clear corners, stack of parts in the garage and endless list of repairs.

Personally, I don't care how long a tranny has gone without a change, I would change the fluid. If it does die from it, then the tranny probably wouldn't have lasted much longer without the change. I changed mine for the first time at like 130,000 and my tranny actually shifts BETTER, but also the fluid wasn't really burnt. It was still red, just kinda smelled funny so I changed 5 quarts of it out and put in a new filter.
