Trans "clunks" when warm when shifting from P to D

2005 Taurus SE Flex 138K miles. Has happened twice recently both times after being in P during 1 hr plus drives. Never happened before. Had car app 10 years. It always went into D or R rather slowly imo from P. But always did so smoothly and quietly. Trans pan dropped, cleaned, filter change and top off app 35K-40K miles ago. No codes. Fluid level, color, smell good no particles on tissue after checking level.

Any thoughts are welcome. Besides pan drop and top off I was wondering about a shift solenoid possibly. Are the solenoids located in the pan?

All 5 solenoids are on the valve body which faces the driver side tire. Not in the oil pan.

Only need to remove the cover, not the entire body. I done this job about 2 weeks ago.

Not difficult, just time consuming.

Thanks for the info. I am thinking I will get a pan drop and fill done and take it from there.

I use to have this problem on a GM car that I owned. It wasnt anything transmission related, but a motor mount being bad. Caused the engine to jump, and hit the motor mount stop.

Yeah thanks for that. I have read to look for that after researching it a bit more and remember I had an old Chevy in the 70's that had this prob. I haven't done a motor mount test yet but will prob do so in the next couple days.

I concur that this is more likely an issue with a broken mount.
