Spark Plugs

2002 Taurus.

I am looking at Motorcraft SP-432 Spark Plug

Are the spark plugs the same for Vulcan and Duratec?

Excluding Flex Fuel.

Excluding all other brands of spark plugs for now.
Just Motorcraft.

I lived to tell the story but did not tell the story to live - Diego Garcia

No, they are not the same.

BTW, Motorcraft doesn't make any sparkplugs. They just order them from Autolite with a logo on them.

Nope. NGK is the OEM for Motorcraft. Autolite couldn't even qualify to get MC badging now.

That used to be true but is no longer the case. Motorcraft plugs are no longer made by Autolite, they are now manufactured by NGK to Ford's specifications. I used to swear by Autolite but their quality has gone down hill badly in the last couple of years, I would not recommend them.

It's SHO time!

If you are so dead on buying Motorcraft, why are you looking on 'various websites'? Go to dealer. Either brick-and-mortar store or directly on Motorcraft official website:
http://www.fordparts.com/landing/motorcraft.aspx
Plug in your VIN and start searching for 'spark plug'.
I shows that OE was AWSF-32F, I think it was single platinum. But now they have as 'Alternative Double Platinum Plug' the AGSF-32F-M (SP-432) for the 24 valve engine.
For the 2V engines is listed AWSF-32P-P. Alternatively SP-432 is listed, but is not what was OE.
However, is not the best choice for you aged ignition system. Soon, with those plugs, you will have to replace the wires and coils.

I stand corrected Autolite was at that time the OE supplier. XP104 was their best replacement.
However, in my Fords and Hyundai now I have NKG Laser Iridium. ITR5F13 (6044) for Duratec V6 and Explorer V8.
Those are the best for Ford DIS ignition, better than what Ford had ever as OE... Because they are maintaining the exact gap longer, and the finer tip (lowering the spark voltage), they help protecting the aging ignition coils and wires. Using fine tip plugs I never had to replace the original wires or coils, on any of my cars.

Actually I see now that even Ford switched to fine tip platinum in newer cars, I was wondering if will they start recommending retroactively the newer plugs - like they did with Mercon V and with 5W20 oil.

Example per pic, this plug, the top metal is mis-formed and does not fit the OEM wire. It is loose as a goose, and matches the carbon tracking, ruining the wire and the plug. I also have a pic of 3 different kinds of Autolite plugs with the same # on them, all out of the same package. One of them could not be gapped.

I feel like Ford controls the quality of Motorcraft. Once upon a time Ford used premium plugs on the rear bank = reverse polarity but later just made all them premium. This only for coil pack cars. COP does not need that.
Coilpack design pushes the limits of plugs on the rears. Fine wire, double plats make 100K OK.

There is a history of brand names being bought out by other businesses, then they run the quality down, milk the $$ and sell the remains. Fram for example.

Fram and Autolite are owned by the same guys. Same with Prestone, Garret turbos, Bendix brake pads - that's Honeywell International.

PS: At some point (1961) Ford bought the Autolite trade name, but feds filed an anti-trust suit and Ford had to give it up (1973).

Again, nope. Honeywell sold them off in 2011. They're owned by an investment firm now, who shifted production to Mexico and let quality go to the dogs.
