Threads near oil filter...what are they?

So I was looking around under my car today and it looked like something was missing near my oil filter. Does anyone know if I am missing something or is there supposed to be nothing in this hole? (See pic)

IIRC, from the factory there is a bracket that goes over the oil filter to protect it from getting damaged in shipment from Cleveland to Atlanta or Chicago depending where your car was built back in the day.

I was going say oil sender, but see it partially hidden by pipes to the left of the filter, lol.
