WD-40 is good for getting gunk out but it's not a long term lubricant. I'd look at spraying some white lithium grease into the latch assembly for best results.

I just realized that when my WD40 failed after a few days.

Yes, that should be fine. I'd recommend not touching those, they can snap back rather powerfully.

Just applied some white lithium grease, looks really gooey. I will see if this lasts more than a few days

I"ve noticed that on my 07 when I press the trunk release, I hear the click but nothing happens---but the trunk has been released, just doesn't open fully- How did I learn that? I started to drive and the trunk opened up! So now, as soon as I pop the trunk (and hear the click) I give it a little tug and it always opens.

As it opens fine after that (pops open about 8 inchs when I press the release) I chalked it up to a seal being formed by the weather stripping that is just firm enough to keep the trunk in place. Perhaps messing with the spring settings would help, but knowing that the trunk will open when I pull on it is OK enough for me.

If I remember correctly, the latch not only unlatches the lock but pushes the trunk lid upwards. The unlock is working but the pushing portion is sticking.

Silicone lube on the gasket will stop the sticking there. I wipe on a thin layer of dielectric grease on all my door seals.
