EGR valves are expensive and usually highly reliable. Never had one fail in my five Taurus over 25 years.

Agree 100%
I am on Bull #7 & #8. Never had one fail. One DPFE fail on '01. Random code. JY unit and no more codes.

I would also check the vacuum lines from the intake to the solenoid valve and that line back to the EGR.

Only DPFE failed on my 2001 real early. Called the dealer for a sensor and they said they had many in stock so must have been a popular item.

^ Automender, I think he's swapping the egr pressure sensor (dpfe), not the egr valve. Next step would be checking the evr and its vacuum lines and elec. conn.

"Iím thinking Iíll replace the coil & wires, the egr sensor and valve, then re-check codes"

I think he said both but now holding off on the valve.

I figured I was working in that area and must have damaged something. There is piping and stuff on top of the gas tank that is also part of system which you can't see.

The right way to find leaks like this is a smoke test but you also have to cycle the system valves which are controlled by the PCM.

Sorry OP, for the little Hi-Jack.

Automender12345, any chance, Gen3 has the EVAP Emmission Control Vent Valve/solenoid on top of the Fuel Tank?

TIA,

J
