Checking Ignition switch, etc.

So twice I've had a problem where the car would not turn over.
Last time I took out the ignition switch, put it back in, and it just worked.
But, I have no idea how to get to the pushrod. Any tutorials?

Most problems are the result of a loose nut connecting the steering wheel to the pedals.
