Long Crank

02 Taurus 3.0 ohv, Started to take longer to crank the past week, I crank it, try again, it starts, runs good after, heard fuel pressure damper but I cant find one or dont know if it has one, fuel system seems not to hold pressure. Possible fuel pump or stuck open injector? I also smelled a hint of richness from the exhaust upon startup

Hot start or cold start?
Long crank hot start could be a leaky injector, holding throttle open while cranking and if it improves is one test as more air is let in to counter act possible flooding from a leaky injector..
Long crank cold start could be low fuel pressure, when was the fuel filter last changed? Multiple key on/off cycles before cranking is one shade tree test to see if cold start improves.
This is assuming motor is in a good state of tune, no codes, etc. .
Fuel pressure readings are needed as I've had warm fuel pumps loose pressure after driving a while.

Might want to do a simple test first. Key on but not to start and you should hear the pump run ~1 second and quit, key off and repeat key on and listen. Do it a third time and start the car. If it starts better you have a bad fuel pump. If it is worse, likely an injector leak, but that is very uncommon. Loss of stored fuel in the supply either, goes to the tank, (common) leaks out injector, (uncommon) or leaks out on the ground.

Key on, pump cycles, no sensor on the fuel rail, there is a return on the fuel filter, only one line to the engine, thinking fuel returns through the filter, cant find any diagram for this fuel system, after I change injectors if it still happens fuel pressure might be bleeding back through the pump.

'02 should have a sensor like the pic on the fuel rail, vac hose and electric to it. If it is actually '01 no sensor but it would have 3 nipple fuel filter with pressure and return to the tank on the back side. The '01 was a one year only 3 nipple filter.

the 01 was a 1 year only fuel system with the 3 port fuel filter. Are you sure it is really an 02 MY?

Ya title and vin says 02 but probably 01 leftover, think I fixed it, new injectors, fuel filter and iac, will see tomorrow. Seeing there is no damper or regulator figured was leaky injector.
