engine won't turn a full rotation

I have the entire drive train from a wrecked 1999 Taurus sitting in my garage and I plan to use it in a mid-engine project.
I've had it for a couple of years now and every so often will take the plugs out, squirt some fogging oil in the cylinders and turn in by hand. The last time I tried this the engine would move freely up to a certain point and stop. I don't know whats causing this and have not forced it. Any ideas?

Maybe you filled a cylinder with oil. How much fogging oil do you spray in. Are all the plugs out?

Yes, all the plugs are out. It feels more like a mechanical hard stop. Maybe a valve is stuck down? Is this an interference design engine?

Thanks

Which engine is it? There are 2 V6 and a V8 engine.
