Cigarette lighter and 12v power outlet not working.
About two or three months ago my cigarette lighter and 12v power outlet went out. I just replaced the fuse and it still hasnt fixed the problem. I have check all connetions, there seems to be nothing wrong with any of it. how would i go about fixing the problem. i also put my phone charger in both plugs and no power. My wife and i have a long trip to go on and a short amount of time to get there. So i cant stop to charge the phone when it dies.

test the connections to the socket with a dmm. this will rule out a broken wire from the fuse box.
if you have power at the fuse and at the socket then the socket is bad

Check in cabin fuse panel, if fuse/s are blown , check wiring insulation from fuse panel to outlets, if insulation & wires look ok, plug something in one of the power outlets that has an indicator light on it & do a wiggle test to see if you can cause it to make contact & the indicator light to come on, or blink, as it makes contact. Sometomes wires look ok, but strands are broken under the insulation & a wiggle test will locate the spot.

More thoughts for consideration. Let us know what you find.

Check the fuse again to see if it is blown. It could be that the charger has something wrong with it and is causing the fuse to blow. Are you sure the charger is in good working order and hasn't gone bad? If you don't know that the charger is definitely good, try plugging something else into the socket it and see if that works or test the charger in another car.

I don't know about the 03 Taurus, but my 02 has fuses for these sockets under the hood...2 fuses, one for each socket, fuse #'s 17 and 18.

As a last resort, if you're in a crunch for time and can't get this fixed soon enough, you could get one of those portable battery jump starters that has a 12V socket.

i replaced the fuse and i didnt see anything in the owners manula for under the hood fuses for them.

If this is an 03 taurus, check fuses 13 in the passenger compartment and 17 under the hood.

Under the hood, I dont have a 17. I mean the is not a spot for its. No mettal tabs are there. im thinking about going and buying a after market outlet with three of them on it. I have had my friend that knows everything about cars and he couldn't find anything beside the number 13 under the dash.

it would be in the power distrubtion box.

would that be the one with the horn relay and some other relays? or where?
