Under certain engine conditions, the egr
valve will open to allow some exhaust gasses into the intake. This displaces the air fuel mixture, allowing for a cooler burn in the cylinder. This is to reduce Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx
) from forming in the combustion chamber. NOx
usually forms when combustion temps are 2500 degrees F or higher.
