Im new to this forum. I recently bought a 98 taurus sho, has 160 000kms. 3.4L v8. I bought it for $100 and the transmission has issues. I was told that the torque convertor needs to be replaced or something to that. I dont know to much at all about these cars. I know the fluid looks burnt and dark like engine oil. Its an automatic transmission. Doesnt move what so ever. Was wondering what is the name of transmission or code so that i may try to locate a replacement one and the average cost of one as well. Or is there some internal part that can be changed. What other issues is the specific make and model of taurus prone to? Any type of help would be very useful and appreciated. Thanks in advance.

AX4N

It's probably SHO specific also. For the V8, you'd want to make sure the cams are welded.

Ford Lincoln Mercury Sable? A personal conveyance named after its inventor, an
assassinated ruler, a character from Greco-Roman myth and a small furry mammal.

You'd have the AX4N, but instead of installing a used transmission, why not get your current one rebuilt with 3.98 Duratec gearing?

Also the cams will need to be welded if they aren't already.
