see if alternator is warm after sitting not running for awhile
unplug dash radio or pull the fuses.

Not sure from the OP what's involved in the battery 'dying after bout week.' A week's worth of sitting, driving or being worked on? The best place to start is testing the battery

just to clarify:

taurus of that era sometimes had there cassette mechanism jam in there dash radios causing a slow current drain.

a shorted diode in the alternator can do that same. that's why to check to see if its warm when the car has not been running for awhile.

a plug in cigar lighter charger can sometimes do evil draws.

some cars had a trunk, glove-box, or under hood light which could stick on and cause parasitic draw issues.
