Gen 4 Taurus Autocross?

I know that the most important component in autocross is the driver, but how well would a heavy sedan such as the Ford Taurus fare? My previous car, a Sable handled impressively for how worn its suspension was and the fact that its not a sports car. It was very balanced, it would gradually oversteer, and sometimes oversteer. I am just interested in what you guys think of the idea.

It wouldn't really get out of 2nd gear much at an autocross event, so I wouldn't be worried about that.

Wow... that last picture is about the most beautiful picture of a taurus I've ever seen!

What kind of modifications have you done?

The car was an automatic at the time of these pictures. Mods at the time were Gen3 rear disk conversion, 24mm front sway bar, 25mm rear sway bar, Eibach lowering springs on KYB struts all around, and a Gen2 SHO ATX trans cooler. The car is set up so "tight" that it'll three-wheel around a tight enough corner. With the automatic I never placed well but I never came in last either, very respectable for the great white whale that it is. I'm looking forward to this coming auto-x season. I did a manual transmission swap over this past summer and I hoping to see improvements in both handling and power delivery.

Once I finish my rig I'm building it specifically for autocross.

These cars weigh as much as muscle cars of the day that you see racing in these. With the proper amount of power, you can probably place pretty high in the ranks.

But like you said, it's all about the driver.

Here's the three wheeling picture, you can just see light under the right rear tire and a little separation of the shadow from the tire.

Hey, I thought that VWs had that "lift the rear tire" market cornered?

I've found AutoCross to be a lot of fun. No idea sure where a [modified?] Taurus fits class-wise. I have not run much in the last 10 years... but part of the equation is your goals & expectations. Of course how much $$ you want to spend always plays a big factor.
You get the same adrenaline rush regardless of your "time" ... that and hangin' out with other car nuts was what I liked.
Have fun!

My car falls under E street prepared because I have roller rockers which are considered an internal engine modification. I am well out classed by every other car in ESP. I'm not sure if the manual swap will move me again.
