I'm wondering how renaming the 500 as Taurus will "ruin the name and image of Taurus?" Most people outside this club think of the Taurus as nothing more than a boring cheap rental car to beat on.

93 Sable has it right, it's the same as any other complete redesign. Example: look at the redesign of the 2002 Altima. That car was totally, completely different from the earlier car...it went from an el cheapo econosedan to a really nice midsize.

I still think it might be too soon to bring back the Taurus name, but I hope I'm wrong about that, and it turns out to be a great car and people buy these things. And I hope they make a 4.4 SHO

I am dancing in celebration. I am so glad that Alan Mulally knows that that "BOLD MOVES!" crap just isn't working.

I just wonder if that means that the Montego is going to become the Sable.

From what I've read, it looks like the 08 Five Hundred is going to be called the 08 Taurus. Five Hundred only made it model years 05-7 then...

Yeah. The current model will wrap up 2007 as the Five Hundred and in 2008 when they launch the new model, it will become the Taurus.

So now when people look back on it, the Taurus will look like it never got discontinued There's no model years missing.

I just though about that. Now we really can deny the fact that the Taurus was discontinued!

Wow.

I wonder if Mercury will keep Montego or make it a Sable? I doubt it, but who knows.

Ford also sold another 2 million Mercury Sables, the Taurus’ nearly identical twin. It is likely that the Five Hundred’s Mercury counterpart, the Montego, will be renamed the Sable.[/b]

haha, Taurus lives!

Lets hope they bring it back with style and it can save Ford again. I hope they realise how important this is for them, they've got to get some hot cars out to market soon!
