08 Factory Alarm

Hello All, I bought a 2008 Taurus from my wife’s grandparents and I’m not fully sure of all the options they may have sprung for. How do I know if it has a factory alarm? It has a panic button on the key, but I’m not certain that is actually an alarm. There are not any keychain style remotes. I just have the keys that have the 4 integrated buttons, lock/unlock, trunk and panic. Any help is greatly appreciated. I’m about to install a remote start and there are two different wiring options depending on whether or not it has an alarm.

Thank you,
Scott

You might be able to call the dealer, or drive into a dealer, and ask them. I dont know of any way to tell without getting into the BCM.

You could try putting the drivers window down, close the door and lock with the key FOB Lock button. Then reach in and just open the door from the inside door handle and see if the horn starts beeping and lights flash. If it does, I would say it has factory alarm.

Thanks for the response. I did try this by rolling the window down and locking the car with the key prior to reading these responses. To double check I will try the same thing by locking the door with the remote. Thanks.

I don't think that the key locking the door will set the factory alarm, only when locked with the FOB

Hello All,
I did lock the door with the fob and windows down and I did not set off a horn or flashing lights so I will assume the car does not have a factory alarm. I appreciate everyone's input.

Regards,
Scott

After setting the lock, did you wait for a few minutes before trying to unlock and open thru the window? It does this to allow you to remove things from the car without having to worry about your keys.
