Hello,
I often drive at night in the city where there are a lot of unfocused bright light sources which make my halogen headlight not sufficient. I need to get something brighter, I was thinking LED headlamps. I heard that these can run insanely hot. The 50,000hrs of lifetime is promising but I also read that sometimes these things will die way to soon anyway.
Has anyone put custom LED headlights in their older Taurus (2004).
HID headlights run HOT, LED headlights run much cooler that incandescent bulbs.
I have had Ebay LED headlights in all my cars for several years, and they far outshine any incandescent bulbs I tried (Silverstar Ultra, etc) . Although they are technically illegal, I have never been pulled over or even flashed by oncoming cars. I did adjust the headlights to point maybe 5 degrees lower than stock.
HID run hot in the headlight housing, which is a good thing. They have the ability to not let your headlights freeze over in the winter time. They far outshine standard halogen. I have a set in my Envoy (aftermarket) and in my Montego (factory). I love them.
LED run cold in the headlight housings, which is a bad thing in the winter, and run hot out of the rear heatsink. The cold front output means that headlight housings can freeze over. I have LED in about 20 of my semi trucks (Volvo 400, Volvo 630, Volvo 730). When the roads are clear, and weather is good, they are great. But in the winter, not so much, when the weather is bad.
The new trucks we bought this year have LED headlights, with headlight housing heaters built into them. We will see if they are any better this winter.
Should I get something that has around the same wattage as the original light bulbs 55/65W? Or can I get something higher. Also how come some LED headlight can produce 6000 lumen at 40W while other can only produce 6000 lumen at 80W. Are the both really equally bright?
Yes I had put some on my 2006 Taurus SEL..and they work great. also if you want to put LED lights on you car go to Kensum.com for your lights. Also I hooked mind up to a toggle switch so that the day time running light would not stay on when you start the car.
