Gen 4 Interior Light Bulb Replacement Shopping List (type and quantity)

I've been over all the various threads and topics on here but cannot find a full shopping list of bulb type, quantity, and color where applicable for any Gen 4 or any Gen for that matter. Bull Geek's excellent guide about the dash and cluster removal which includes a very good picture of the back of the cluster with all light sockets visible is a great start.

Yes I could pull the entire dash, check each of the lights, put the dash back together (mostly), order bulbs.....you get the idea.

Before I do that I'm hoping maybe to finally contribute here more by kicking up a potential sticky worth shopping list of bulbs for the bull. Not only to help those who want to change light color but just for general repair and replacement.

If you have replaced any interior bulb (cluster, overhead dome, column shifter, etc) could you please list those in this thread so that others might benefit from your diligent research. Bulb type/size/color/quantity would be essential. Original color would be ideal as well.

Obviously I'm looking for Gen 4 for my 2003 SEL if you happen to remember. Oh and per Bull Geeks photo I can tell there are 5 ILLUM lights at the 194 size all clear (with a green tint on the cluster). What I haven't determined is if all the other bulbs are 161's or 37's and if those are also clear or tinted.

Thanks!
-Kirk

Dome & trunk lights (I believe they are also the puddle lights) can be replaced with 41 or 42mm festoon bulbs.

Tag lights are 194/168

Kirk, iirc, most of this info is listed in the car's owners manual, unless you're requesting LED #s.

Sheila, while I am planning to upgrade to LED bulbs the specific bulb numbers and types of the instrument cluster are not provided in the owners manual if I'm not mistaken. Ford doesn't usually want us dismanteling the instrument cluster.

Using that as a stepping stone I figured it might be nice to have an easily searchable list of bulbs for each GEN for those of us on the forum or those simply searching for the info online.

I've replaced everything in my gen 4 except headlights, puddle light and trunk light so far, and superbrightleds.com has been spot on. They have a selector to choose a vehicle and filter results for that specific make/model. I've done instrument cluster as well, and what they have listed worked fine for me.

I'm not 100% sure on this so someone please correct me if I'm wrong...

2003 Taurus/Sable...

Instrument cluster
Type 194 for back-lighting (black sockets)
Type 74 for indicator lights (white sockets)
Red/brown bulb sockets are LED's

License plate illumination
Type 194 or 168 (168 is slightly brighter)

Integrated control panel (Radio/HVAC)

Back-lighting consist of non replaceable LED's

High-mount brake light
Non-replaceable LED's (For later G4 models)

...That's all I know.

I replaced my dash instrument cluster bulbs now here's the kicker. Gen4.5 (2004-2007) uses the type 74 bulbs. I [believe] Gen 4 (2000-2003) uses 194. I bought the wrong 5 BLUE led bulbs so if anyone wants them for a reasonable price PM me if you want to take my 194's I bought by mistake off my hands at a reasonable price and I can have all (6) of them in the mail within 24 hours or less with a tracking # for you or any other Gen 4(2000-2003) owner. You can also use these in your glove box, puddle lamps, shifter console, and cigarette lighter illumination light. My advice is replace them all at the same time since dismantling your dash, console and radio bezel can eat a great chunk of your day and the puddle lamps are tricky too. The trunk, Gen4 courtesy lights & map lights I believe are the 44mm bastoon bulbs. I have 4 extra of the 16 white LED bastoon bulbs I can let go with if anyone wants them for a song. Sometimes TOO much light may not be a good idea. It's like the sun is coming out of your car at night with the 16 LEDS courtesy lights & overhead. For the bastoon bulbs ALWAYS measure measure with a ruler. Takes a few seconds to check. If you get it wrong the RMA process & long DMV type lines at the post office stink.

Thanks everyone for adding information here. We have a concensus of what type of bulbs but in general I'm not seeing you need X of 194 or Y of 161. superbrightleds.com does indeed give the bulb number but they do not specify the quantity of each you would need nor do they tell you which were stock regular bulb and/or the original color if there was one.

As pointed out, it can be a time consuming effort tearing down the console. Just trying to save myself that time by keeping the thread going a bit more.

Unless your car differs from my car, you will need 5 of the 194 bulbs for the guage illumination. I couldn't tell you how many you would need to get for all of the individual informational lights, but counting the caps on that image in bull geek's thread, I count 17. (Unless you have a column shift, then you would need another one for the gear indicator I think) From what I saw when I had mine out, they were all the same (I think being the 161 bulb according to superbrightleds.com). I didn't bother to replace those, because I figure if they're ever on, the color of the light is the least of my concerns.

Do you still have these bulbs? If so, how much are you asking? Also if you are near the western suburbs like Aurora cant we meet to sell them and save on shipping?
