Need Help : Swap 99 dash column shift to 96 sable dash with floor shift.

I'm not sure if i'm posting this in the right spot. I have a 99 Taurus with column shift and i want to convert it to a floor shift. I would like to know if it possible . The 96 Sable dash I removed had auto lamps, floor shift, manual ac and floor puddle lights. My 99 only came with a column shift and manual ac.I took every thing from the new sable dash and left it in tacked including the steering column. The only things I left at the junkyard were the Sable steering wheel and the passenger side airbag. I also have an ax4n trans in my car if that makes a diffrence. I have tried using the search function of the forum and google before posting.

I haven't checked or pulled my dash out of my car does anyone know if there is a hole in the firewall, or floor of non floor shift models, or do i have to drill one.

Does anyone know how to swap the key lock from my car to with a column shift to the new column for floor shift is it possible.

Taurus and Sables 96-99 with a floor shift are the shift cable and trans cable with bracket interchangeable. Such as is i have a floor shift with an OD button vs the cables on a floor shift model with no OD button.

Also I would like to know if i am missing an parts to do the swap.
The parts I have are :
Center console with floor shifter with OD button
Dash with steering column
Cable that goes from column to floor shifter
Cable that goes from floor shifter to trans with brackets
Carpet
Dash wiring still attached to replacement dash
Guage cluster
Gem module from same 96 sable with autolamps
All nuts and bolts.

Thanks

I believe you'll have issues at the transmission. The lever on the trans for the gear select might pull differently. And even if you get the lever off the floor shifter donor car the lever might be keyed differently as well and might not fit the floor shifter trans.

Yes if I remember correctly the lever is different. And if you put the lever from the floor shifter onto the color shifter it will go on but the little ball will be upside down. You'd have to modify the pull lever on the floor shifter trans to make it work and even then it won't be right. You won't have access to all the gears as the lever will run out of pull or you won't be able to put it into park properly.

Thanks jag1959 and 96FordTaurus for the info. I am going to check out the links when I get off work. I can only read or post on my breaks and lunch wish there was more time in a day.
Does anyone know if the key lock cylinders are interchangeable from the column of 99 Taurus with column shift and a 96 Sable that has floor shift.

I am planning on doing the conversion Saturday.
