I know anything is possible but I was wondering if I could swap out my 3.5l from my 2011 taurus for a motor in a 2014 taurus? Only difference I can tell is ti-vct and direct injection. Would this be pretty straight forward if I had engine, computer, trans?
Not worth the hassle, IMO. You will need a complete donor wiring harness, the correct PCM, and be able to get all the modules on the car (LOTS of them!!) to all communicate with the donor PCM. You should be able to do that with Forscan if you know what you are doing with Forscan.
Are you sure the 14 normally aspirated engine is DI? I know my daughters 13 Limited is still port injection, and I thought the only DI Cyclones were the twin turbo versions?? If the 14 engine is in fact DI, you will likely need to drop the gas tank to switch out the in tank fuel pump, which I would guess is different than the port injection engine in tank pump.
If the exhaust manifolds are different on the DI engine (if it really is DI) you will need a new pipes with cats, etc.
Aren't the 2011, 3.5L V6 Cyclones ti-vct too? They did have a little less HP & Torque than a 2013 & up engine, & in late 2011 or definitely in 2012 they got a coolant pump improvement too, that was supposed to be more robust. The N/A 3.5L Cyclone 3.5 L engines, to my knowledge are NOT GDI engines, from any year they were put in the Ford/Mazda platforms that the engines were installed from the OEMs.
My brother just got a 2013 NA 3.5 L Taurus engine put into his '09 Edge. The original 3.5L he had ,(because of coolant pump catastrophic failure) was replaced because of engine seizure . Instead of getting a 3.7 , the latter model 3.5L V6s have up to 290HP. I heard somewhere that the Police versions of the new Taurus" have 3.7L Cyclones in them? Don't know if they are all ecoboost engines?

@taucor0315 could you provide any information on how the swap went? did the the electronics plug and play for the most part? I know the ECMS are different in 2013 from 2012 and back so I was worried the car might go crazy with DTC codes. As much info as you have or are willing to share would be super appreciated!! can't seem to find anything on this swap
His Mechanic put it in. I'm sure the correct HW was used like a PCM,etc.
