FYI - there is a rather significant group of folks that attend our track events that I keep in touch with via e-mail. Here is a message I just sent them.

Hello everyone!

It's finally that time of year to get geared up for track events! I'm very excited about this, especially after having the Mustang stored all winter. It's nice to be able to have it out again.

You probably expected to hear from me before now (and many of you have asked) about a Spring track event.

I must admit that time is escaping me this year and I was not on top of my planning for track events. It's now too late and too short notice to put something together for this Spring. Ultimately, it boils down to a lack of time on my part.

Through the course of thinking about track events for the year I've been kicking around the idea of putting together a Fall event (as usual). With the number of events (outside of racing/track time) I'm committed to this year, that just isn't looking feasible.

A small, but notable part of what has taken my time and distracted me is the release of the new 2010 Taurus SHO. It is very exciting that Ford decided to bring this back. I had a unique opportunity to attend the Press Conference and "unveiling ceremony" in Chicago back in February. It was a spectacular event that included a tour of the plant in Chicago where the cars are being built. Ford rolled out the red carpet for a group of us SHO enthusiasts and we got top notch treatment to celebrate the re-introduction of the new SHO. The car is absolutely phenominal and a fantastic bang for the buck, I can't wait to drive one! Hopefully all of you will do the same when it hits show rooms mid-summer.

This e-mail is getting rather long-winded so I'm going to wrap it up. In summary, there are no TCCA events planned for this year's track season (and there probably won't be any). I wanted to keep in touch with everyone so you aren't left wondering. Even though it looks like I won't be running any events this season I still plan to attend as many as I can. So, please let me know where you're spending your track time this summer and let me know if there's an opportunity to join you! If I can be of assistance with anyone's events please let me know that as well.

Hopefully I'll see many of you at the various track events this summer! Many thanks for your support of the TCCA and we hope to have you back during what should be an eventful 2010 season.

I don't like this "hiatus" for TCCA track events, but there's just more on my plate than I can handle at the moment!

Thanks again and I hope to hear back from you soon! I wish you all a safe and fun track season!

This also means that I do not have the necessary time to plan a SOTC meet. I realize that we could probably work something into the MASSive meet, but I'm not certain I can make it to that yet and it isn't clear to me when/where an opportunity to meet would occur. I'm certainly open to ideas. Bottom line is that I'm extremely busy and whatever happens can't require a ton of my time to plan.

I've been keeping an eye on my own work schedule to gauge when I can or can't take time off for an event, and long story short, I do have a few ideas for possible dates, for which I'd be more than happy to help plan a multi-day SOTC meet if it means taking some burden of the work involved off your plate. For example, April 20th up until Memorial day is wide-open for me; anytime from June 19th through July 3rd would work out; and August 8th through September 3rd is all clear as well. Let me know if any of these time periods check out with when you're available, and I'll gladly help to coordinate a TCCA meet somewhere that's as convenient as possible for most members. Where exactly is the largest concentration of members? The old forums had a mapping function to find that out, but it seems to have disappeared with this latest relaunch. Anyway, the Chicago Auto Show outing wasn't half bad, and I'd really like to be able to attend a meet & greet kind of event with the other chapters. I agree that arranging a track event would be pushing it this year due to the economy, but we should still be able to have fun as a club without only calling it Running Of The Bulls or breaking the bank to reserve a location.

The 2010 SHO was awesome; the sheer amount of thrust when you punch the throttle will likely make some drivers feel weak in the knees and make others hard just above the knees. (Sorry if it was in bad taste, but I've been waiting all weekend to use that one!)

Sadly, no one got to drive them except for the Ford Motor Co. chassis dynamics engineer (Jeff, he was a real stand-up guy. Great track instructor, too!) who brought one from Ann Arbor, and the Car & Driver Magazine staffers who drove the other one in to do "research" for their upcoming road test article- FYI, be sure to check out their September '09 issue for the complete article, with pictures taken at GingerMan of a Red Candy Metallic '10 SHO with a red Gen1 SHO and a blue Gen2 SHO that belonged to some of the other attendees. By the end of their long, harsh session of test laps, the '10 literally had smoking front brakes; I snapped the photos to prove it! If the upcoming article heaps half as much praise on the SHO as the staffers did in person on Saturday, then Car & Driver will have started to redeem themselves in my mind for their long-standing bias towards only picking comparison test winners that happen to come from BMW, Honda or Toyota. As I mentioned in the track meet thread up at the top of this page, I will be putting up a new post with links to the complete photo and video galleries from this weekend. No definite ETA yet, since the vids are taking substantially longer to upload than I had expected. I feel confident that you'll all see the finished results by the middle of this week; I'm optimistically shooting for it to be done by Wednesday. One side note, though. If anyone viewing the galleries is actually depicted in some of the photos, please let me know either by e-mail or PM what your name is and any details you'd like to give about your cars, which I will gladly add to the completed post as informative captions.

Thank you for your patience; the gallery will be open very soon. And please, no flash photography or excessive use of this smilie-
s[1]:
I know exactly how pointless words are at describing this past weekend's event.

ETA: see Events thread- Sorry for the conflicting post, but my pictures were finally ready, so only the videos are yet to come.

Enjoy! View Topic- Gingerman 5/9/09
