2001 Vulcan 3.0L V6

Ok this is the first Taurus that I have had the privilege to work on. I have a well rounded understanding on Ford's prior to 2000. I am stuck right this minute, dealing with a charging system issue and I don't want to do more harm than good. I could tell about a month or so ago that it was having system issues. Due to the headlights turning that dull yellow and getting bright and dim from speeding up and slowing down.
This evening I added some r134 to the a/c and when I finished I turned the car off. Then when I went to restart it I was dead stick. Jump started it, then pulled the ground and it died. Jumped it again and checked the voltage with the a/c off I was barely over 12v.
Replaced the alternator and it started right up. Let it run and checked the voltage. Still just over 12v. Turned off the car and it wouldn't restart. But the airbag system light came up on the instrument panel and the tachometer wasn't working either. Not to long ago I did the upper and lower intakes. So most of the wire harness was disturbed but with as much caution as could be had. Text book repair. So far have had no issues since that repair. Also have done the full strut assembly and rotors. Still have of all the suspension to rebuild, rack and pinion, power steering pump. The car has 201,000+ miles on it and is in really good shape for its age and miles plus its paid for. Need some help from here on the troubleshooting of charging system. Thanks.

Welcome Make sure the alternator is for the right year car. After 2001 the alternators used the PCM for voltage regulation.
