Diving into the Ford Taurus abyss.. Err, my introduction

Hello all. This forum appears to be a good go-to for all things Taurus.

Just a little about me. I am a Honda guy (I know, boo ), but I also maintain a 2006 Ford Five Hundred (yea! ) SEL with the Asian six-speed tranny as well. It is my daughter's daily driver (and used to be my mother's car - who put a lot of highway miles on it first - lots of casino trips, you know...). With over 230K on it, it needs some TLC and this place appears to be able to help. And who knows, maybe I can pass it forward with experience and advice down the road as well.

Welcome!

On the downside, help for our bastardized stepchildren of Ford, it can be hard to find help (anywhere on the internet). Even on this forum.

I have the sister to your Ford Five Hundred, the Mercury Montego AWD, and it also shared the assembly line with the Ford Freestyle. And your car is not really a Gen 4, and its also not really a gen 5. Its a gen 4.5. I am not familiar with the tranny you have, but I have the CVT in my Montego. And support, in general, for this tranny is minimal at best. You have a Gen 5 body, with a Gen 4 Engine, and a hybrid of everything else. Technically speaking, our car was only made for 3 years, so even junkyarding parts can be a challenge.

So as you read thru the sections and searching for help, look for tell tale things to confirm it really is for your 4.5

Again, welcome!
