I had sold one of my new vehicles and had decided that I only needed one new one and an older vehicle for a "back up" or in the rare occasion that the wife and I would be going separate directions. (we are senior citizens) I was thinking I only needed something that would take me a few miles and was looking through ads and saw one at a local Ford dealer and then I did a double take on the mileage on this vehicle. So, I go down there intending to just take a look and go on as it was higher priced than I wanted to pay. The internet person I had contacted came out and said she would get me a salesman and I told her I just wanted to take a look and I didn't have time for the "sales speech" so she gets him. I look at him and he looks at me and it was a person I used to know pretty well at another non-Ford dealership. I had not seen him for at least 6 years. I would have left then if it had been anybody but him. Okay, to shorten this story, I looked at this 2011 Ford Taurus and the wife drove it and then I drove it and then we bought it. Now, back to the mileage on this 2011 Ford Taurus--10,500 miles--one owner-car-fax report. Just a couple of very small "scuffs" on the entire body. Leather-dual heated power seats, standard V-6 engine , 8 speed trans. The seats are really comfortable--much better than my 2019 SUV (not a Ford) and it drives like a vehicle with now 11,100 miles. Oh, yeah, going to be driving this more than I thought for my back-up vehicle. Oh, they had put new Michelin tires on it--haven't checked which series but it drives fantastic and not any noticeable problems yet. IF you want to know what I paid, they were asking $13000 and I talked them down to 12 Grand plus my taxes and there fee which made it 12,750 dollars OTD.(purchased 4-11-2019.) I am really happy with this Ford so far. Yes, I have owned a few other fords in my life time. Picture is not great--took a few in case we had a hail storm for insurance to prove it was in great condition when I purchased it.
Welcome, PTFord. Nice score! You story is very similar to mine!
My daily driver 2002 Taurus with close to 150K miles is starting to show some wear and I was not sure whether to put money into it (it still runs great) or put that money towards a newer car. I was superficially looking at late model Taurus and found a 2010 SEL with 28K miles in showroom condition offered at $13,000. After some negotiation I bought it home later that week.
I still use the older one as a local daily driver while the newer one comes out of the garage for longer trips a couple ties a month.
Good luck with it, I wish I had your color, but I am learning to like my Silver Bull.
Congrats, PTFord. I bought our silver ingot 2011 SHO in March 2012 as a certified pre-owned (18 months and 18,000 miles from delivery) from Britt Ford in Northern VA. We're still loving it! I installed a K&N cold air intake and filter and an SCT Tune, which in combination helped the highway mileage and response. For the challenges, one persistent issue from early on is hood and trunk seam rust, which was a known issue for Ford during for cars of that era. Related issues are: front cowl seal to the windshield and water infiltration into the trunk. The front cowl issue showed up two years ago as the front cowl lost its seal against the front windshield and with seasonal pollen and leaves, the cowl drains clog and water overflows to clog the cabin air filter. The dealership was not helpful at all resolving that issue. We had success last year sealing the passenger side cowl seal to the windshield with yellow death (aka, 3M weatherstrip adhesive). This season we're starting to see some humidity inside the car again and it turns out the cowl-windshield seal was completely separated. I've been using yellow death since for over 30 years and haven't ever seen it separate like that. Resealing it should get at least a couple more years. The trunk water issue has me baffled since the carpet on the left center of the trunk gets moist but there is no evidence of where the water is coming in. I'd love to hear if anyone else is having either of these issues and how they have resolved them, or if not, what they've tried that hasn't worked (save me and the rest of us from conducting more experimental fixes.) And I should mention I replaced the original taillights with chrome trim (which was already starting to peel when I bought the car) with SEL lights without the chrome -- changed the rear end of the car from looking like it was older and a bit neglected to almost as clean as a new SHO!
