clearcoat has lifted in a couple spots (1995 sedan)

can I do anything to stop this?
sand/buff/cut through the clear and touch it up with new?

Check to see if it has been repainted. I have never had an issue with clearcoat on any of my five Taurus. If it has been repainted then you may have to repaint the repaired section.

Yeah, parts have been repainted - but not the right front fender where the clear coat is lifting.

Pretty common with certain colors and age. There's nothing you can do sans repaint it.

I had '90 some sort of gold color and I gave to my daughter. Top and part of the hood lost it's clear coat and looked awful. Car was well less than 10 years old. At the time, I remember seeing others the same color doing this but not other colors. Of the 8 Bulls I have had/have, this was my least favorite. So I bought a '92 Sable with Essex engine, to replace this '90, really favorite car.

Red seems to do it pretty commonly, dark green as well. Brown depends.

Most Gen 3's have the 'sunburnt' bumpers at this point too.
