Replaced the upper idler today so it's not whistling dixie anymore. Man what a pain in the ass that was to get the belt back on though because of the way the belt routes. Lots of cursing and dropped the wrench a few times but I got it on there.

I need to do the Volvo as well. Need a T60 torx bit first. Should replace the noisey alternator too.

Today was some maintenance for the Sonata after the trip to FL. AutoZone was running a sale on High mileage oil, STP oil and air filter for $25 so I did that and a new PCV valve today. I've never replaced the air filter in the car, and we've owned it for almost 2 years now(and 37K miles) so it's due.

I took a sample to send to Blackstone just to see how things are going, so I'll get that back soon. Good for another 5K

Another day, another recall for the Sonata. I tell you, I really like the car but seeing Hyundai's recent engine issues are concerning. I took it in for the engine recall where they 'checked' the engine. It still has a noise in it when cold and I brought those concerns to them. They said that if it continues to come in again. Well.... then I get another recall notice, this time they are updating the firmware of the ECU to utilize the sensors in the engine to determine knock that can be damage to the bearings. I'm bringing it in on Thursday but they are going to look at the engine again. It's been consuming WAY too much oil lately. In a 5-6000 mile OCI, I'm having to add almost 3 qts. It DOES NOT leak a drop, it's all going out the back. I've already replaced the PCV too. They extended the engine warranty to 120K miles, and it's sitting at 115K so time is of the essence We shall see what they say.

You're definitely gonna need an engine soon-ish, all the 2.0's eventually succumb to bearing clearance and oil pressure issues.

My 1990 Taurus that I bought at 76k miles used a quart every 1000 miles. I never had a car that used that much oil. I had the car for another 180k miles and it never got worst or better.

It's not a 2.0 it's the 2.4 Theta. If it was the 2.0T, my wife sure as hell wouldn't be driving it, I would

I never ended up sending the second one out. The original one was really good but that was about 40K miles ago. It's due for another oil change so we'll see what they say on Thursday when it goes in and take it from there. If it's "well everything seems ok", I'll change the oil and send it back out. See the attached.

The 2.4 is sadly included as well, as you know. There's worse things than getting a new engine under warranty though...
