Transmission Temperature Gauge Install
From Taurus Car Club Maintenance and Modification Wiki
How to install a transmission temperature gauge on a Gen III and Gen IV Taurus with the AX4N transmission.
Find the port shown in the picture below, there are two ports on top of the transmission be sure to use the one CLOSEST to the radiator.
Once you have found the port shown in the picture, remove the bolt. Take your sending unit, I believe the size of the port is 1/8" (I ordered an autometer transmission temp. gauge and it was the correct size) apply some anit-seize to the sending unit threads. Before threading the sending unit into the port take a 3/8" ring terminal and crimp a wire long enough to reach to wherever you are going to place your gauge, once the terminal is crimped onto the wire slide the 3/8" ring terminal over the threaded end of the sending unit so that the terminal will be smashed between the sending unit and the top of the transmission housing, this will serve as the ground for your gauge. It is important to the accuracy of your gauge that your ground is as close to the sending unit as possible, so please do not disregard this step and merely ground the gauge to another close part of the car. Crimp your ring terminal for the sending unit wire and run both it and your ground wire to the cabin, I recommend using the colum shifter hole since it is rather close to the sending unit and the drivers side where I assume most of you will want to mount your gauge. You will need a 12V power wire for the gauge as well, you will want to tap into a power source that is hot in run, I tapped into the radio power source so my gauges are on during acc. and run, you can use the fuse taps or you can go to radio shack and purchase some tap in connectors for rather cheap. Once you connect your ground, sending unit wire, and 12V power to the back of the gauge you are officially done.
