1986 - 1989 Dash Removal
From Taurus Car Club Maintenance and Modification Wiki
To remove the dash in your 1986-1989 Taurus is very easy. Note that the Sable uses a different dash design, and that this page does not apply to applicable Sable models.
it can be done in 8 easy steps:
1. Disconnect the battery by pulling off the negative cable. Then, remove the steering column opening cover, by removing the four screws holding it on.
2. Remove the insulation under the glove box. This can be done by removing the two push nuts holding it in.
3. Remove the steering column trim shrouds, then disconnect any connections
4. Unscrew the screws retaining the steering column, then remove the column.
5. Unscrew the screws that hold the radio trim panel in place. Then, simply snap the panel out.
6. Remove the screws holding the instrument cluster trim panel in place, as well as the jamnut behind the headlight switch, and the screw behind the clock (or where the clock should be). Remove the panel by pulling it towards where the driver should be.
7. Disconnect the speedometer. This can be done by reaching under the dash and pushing the flat tab on the plastic connector. Then, the cluster comes out with the panel.
8. Release the glovebox. This is done by pushing in the both sides of the bin, then allow it to hang freely.
Then, the rest should come right out!
