A few days ago I posted a question on how to install a wire harness and this is an update. The stereo is in, the wireing guide Godspunk32 posted was quite useful and I finished it.
I was asked to some photos of the kit and I will. The kit cost me $75 on ebay and included the dash kit the harness + the security keys.
What's really cool is the dash kit is actually powered and is wired right into the dimmer. So it's all lit. The other cool thing is the rear defrost switch doesn't turn off after 5 minutes once you push it down it keeps it running. till you turn it off. I used to hate having to turn it back on every 5 minutes. More pics to come.

I went with a Kenwood and the sound on it is out of this world. Saw it at bestbuy for 579.99 found it on ebay brand new for 299. Couldn't resist. I'm also planning to wire the music keg right into my trunk. It'll give me MP3 capability off a hard drive. I refuse to buy an Ipod. It's got nothing to do with apple its just I refuse to buy anything that's a fad. Ever since MP3 players went from being called mp3 players and are now called Ipod's by the majority it makes me stay far away.

looks good, nice deck!
I wish this kit manufacturers could make the plastic look a bit better tho, like make them smooth like the stock unit. You would think they would for $70+ Oh well, at least we can actually put stereos in out cars

AMEN tmonster. thats why i havent put an aftermarket head unit in my car. i see those install kits and the plastic looks way off. it doesnt even look like they attempted to make the surface texture the same. everytime i see it i think back to those cheap kits you could buy at Kmart way back when. makes me think of an old 80 something escort i had.

Update!
The defroster light when bad. when I put the pins in to pop it out to inspect the rear defrost switch not working anymore. I was greeted to a loud crunch and currently duct tape is holding the radio in. Since this company uses 2 small thin plastic that is like the plastic on the plastic hangers only thinner they snapped and now tomorrow I will install a metra kit.

The American International kits are crap IMO. The Scoshe kit at Best Buy is alot better and it doesn't have that plastic plate over the face. It is contured to the factory curves. I went with this kit but from Cruthfield. Haven't instaled it yet still waiting for my Sony XA-300 so I can conect my XM radio to the unit and not have to use the FM modulator.

FIRST OFF...stay away from Sony mobile equipment. Their car stuff is very restricted...like a car with a governer at 70mph. It's not as cutting edge as their home stuff, but they still charge what better units charge.
*now that has been said*
I was also going to suggest the Scosche kit...it's a bit more stout than both the Metra AND AI kits. It's fit and finish is a bit better as well...but it's a bit more pricey (than the AI kit anyway). On a whole, the American International kits are easier to deal with and less expensive AND have a wider range of applications, but they are a bit flimsy. Metras are nice and more specific and as sturdy as hard plastic can get, but are expensive and have to be special ordered in many occassions...while Scosche fall somewhere between in durability, but are scarce in applications.
BTW...THE KENWOOD IS A MONSTER. I love it. Especially the Dual Zone feature for when you have a rear seat video system....the front and rear speakers can play two different sources simultaneously *betcha didn't even know that did you *

What do you mean there car stuff is very restricted . Have had Sony in my cars trucks and Big Rigs Fr more that 15 years and have never had a problem with them. One reason why I'm sticking with it is because I already have all the stuff I need except the XA300 so I can install the XM radio I have and then also hook up the kids DVD system to so they can listen through the car speakers if they want.
I'm not trying to start a what brand is better war, just want to know what you mean.

Hey, This only works for tauruses and sables that have an analog dash to begin with, right? It doesn't work for poor SOBs like me who have digital climate control?

Correct, as I said in the other thread.
You can mount it below the faceplate, in the cubby where the ashtray is, or you can mount it vertically in the center console.
Sonys have long been known to be sub-par in quality and in features, especially when compared to similarly priced models. A Pioneer or Clarion of the same price range will be much better. I can't tell you how many people I know that bought Sony head units, amps, or speakers, and either blew the speakers (after having them professionally installed) or had random parts of their head units just stop working. I've seen everything from actual cd players stop reading discs after 2 months, to slip down faces stop moving and get jammed. Stay away from Sony car audio. Now, with that said, Sony home AV stuff is awesome!

I got my radio for $90 on scochfield. It is awesome. IT sounds pretty good, and seems to be good quality it is louder than the pactory units, and it plays MP3/WMA.
Oh... and since I bought a HU, th scoche kit was only $40, normally $60.

My AI kit had both mounting tabs break off and the light for the defroster go out within a couple weeks.
I got the metra kit and it's so much better, it's actually contoured and fits the dash, the A/C bezels light up to match the stock green, higher quality clips and plastics, overall it's light years ahead of the AI kit.
