after have been talked into by a friend in another company on my army base, i finally joined this site. I see a lot of people help each other on this site, great. I have a 1999 Taurus GL, nothing fancy, just a decent car for me, my wife and my 4 year old. My heater does not blow cold. When I turn the knob all the way to hot and when the car is completely warmed up, the heat just isn't hot like it used to be. Chris checked my car out and said to join this site and ask for help, he thinks my heater core may be clogged.

Is your temperature pointer on the "normal" range when the engine is warm? If the temp pointer is below normal, it's most likely the thermostat. If its in the "normal" range, it's probably a clogged heater core. Don't forget to check first if the radiator is full of coolant (when the engine is cold).

Yes, make sure the coolant reservoir is full. If it isn't, you probably have a leak. Top it up and see if you get heat. If it's full, get the engine nice and hot, and touch each of the heater hoses going into the heater core. They should both feel warm. If one is warm and the other is cold, or considerably cooler anyway, then the heater core is plugged. You'll need to flush it out, and that should get your heat back again. It's also possible that the blend door or blend door motor is damaged, but that's not very common on the taurus.

Got it to work. My friend Dan's heater indeed had a clog in the core. He had stop-leak in his car, it clogged his hater core. I unplugged the two hoses and sure enough, some wierd substance was coming out of it. Some metallic looking stuff. I hooked a hose to one side ran it into a bucket and I put a water hose to the other I turned it on high. All the stop leak crap came pouring out. Put it back together, and voila, his heater was greater then ever. MESSAGE TO ALL, never use that metallic stop-leak crap, unless you want to freeze. I'll probably need to give his car a good flush, and find where the leak is that caused someone to put stop-leak in it.
