Unhappy

Hey I'm new on here but I was wondering if anyone has really built up a high performance 3.0. vortec. I see a lot of dressup stuff but not a lot of in depth engine work. I don't mean turbos or blowers.\
My car has a lot of k's on it and when the engine needs to be redone I would like to know if anyone has really built one of these up.
Thanks.

if your waiting on the engine to crap out or wear out you better find a different car, because mine has 196K on the ORIGIONAL engine and it is just as powerfull as when it was new.

give us a bit of info or your car, year and engine, if your not 100% sure on which engine you have we can clarify for you. oh and how many miles, there are maintnance intervals if you have a tech or a SHO.

basicly if you want a few ponies and better shifting from the slushbox ford tranny I would highly reccomend a chip and everyone on here will back me up on the difference a chip will make.

welcome to the TCCA

project turbo SHO codename SATX2 look for it spring 2006

His info actually says he has a Vulcan not a Duratec.

I think the most built up Vulcan is Proberacers(?).

Here's a link to Morana who has High performance parts for the 3.0L Vulcan

ASSUMING you have a duratec, the duratec is not like an old chevy motor where you can stroke it or anything. If you have the vulcan which is more likley, all the below info will NOT be relevant.

I have probbaly done the most internal engine upgrades of anyone on the boards for this particular engine.

The only real internal upgrades would be porting, polishing, valve job, overbore, SVT cams, SVT heads.

I have done svt heads and cams, but as for the cams, they really ont do anything on their own and not much even with the heads. They were designed for use with a diffrent intake manafold for maximum performance. Problem is the manafold was designed for a 2.5 block rather than the 3.0 and are believed to be too restrictive. In the near future i may test that theory.

The heads are also a love hate relationship. THey were also designed for a 2.5 block and as a result the intake valves are 3 mm smaller and the exhaust are 4mm smaller. The heads can be opened up and fitted with 3l valves. This wil fix that problem. The good point of them is since they were designed for the 2.5, the head volume is smaller, thus bumping the compression from 10:1 to 11.1-11.25:1 giving more HP.
