My sister took her car to have a clunking noise checked out, they said it was a broken trans mount. Now the car wont shift automatically but you can do it manually. Im going to look at car today and thought somebody might have some input on this? I will look into taking it back to where she took it but ya know how that usually goes.
Thanks, Rob MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!! |

Ok, I went and drove it today. It didnt start having problems till a few weeks after in for the check so not anything they did.
If you put it in drive it wont go into gear or will slip from a stop, if you take off in 1st it takes off fine then you shift to drive after you get going it will change through the rest of gears with no slipping at all. Is it fixable or time for another trans? 2003 Has 120K on it, I can get a used with 78K for $350 and install it myself. Is it worth the time and effort or is 78K just another trans getting ready to go out also? Thanks, Rob |

There is no telling when the new (used) tranny will go.. so it is hard to say. It all has to do with how it was driven and maintained.
If you end up doing it yourself, it is a risk well taken. Even if the new tranny goes at 120k like your current one, you will have saved a lot on labor costs anyways. It could go to 160k.. or 100k.. you never really know.

A more through diagnosis is needed to determine "what went out". SOmething failed. Valve body issue? Torque converter splines strip out? Pump shaft strips out/fails?

I bought a 2003 Sable on Easter 2012. It started jerking when I would but it in drive (not in reverse though) soon after I bought it. Other than the jerking problem the car ran fine. I had the motor mounts and trans mounts replaced but it didn't fixed the problem, luckily I had a 90 warranty and the trans was rebuilt. I'm not sure if this a common problem or not but I got a 1 year warranty after the rebuild.

I talked to my trans guy today he said it was the low roller clutch or something like that and said the 350 on the used trans was a good deal. I will pick it up tomorrow and give it a try. Better then the $2200 ford wants for a reman.
Thanks, Rob |
