will the 4f50n mechanically swap in place of an existing ax4n ?? if it does, what kind of electronic problems are expected ?? are the 4f50n's even worth the trouble to consider such an idea ?? (haven't seen too much reliability info on them). if the concensus is they are more reliable, and CAN BE swapped, i would prefer to do that, because i am keeping my old bull "FOREVER!!"

The trans for your car needs to come from that year or, from whatever compatible years are spec'd for it from the Hollander interchange.

I'm not sure what year you have but, Hollander Interchange for 3rd and 4th gens are:
AX4N (4F50N) or AX4S. Must be replaced with the same type of transaxle. 1996 - 1997 same. 1998 one year only. 1999 one year only. 2000 one year only. 2001 - 2003 same. 2004 - 2007 same. Vulcan OHV motors must be matched, Duratec DOHC transaxles will not work on a Vulcan and vise-versa. SHO AX4N is the same 1996 - 1999.

The reliable fix is simple, have a master trans builder make i reliable. The only part hat gets complicated is cost, and making sure the builder knows what he is doing.
My trans is over 170,000 miles now, bought it with 138,000 and no OD and was told it had "lots of wear". Despite that, they made a couple mods to the valve body, and it has been great ever since. |

yeah, i did. OK, anything special about it ?? just to mention, i am dealing with a 1995 taurus, 3.0l vulcan engine, with the AX4N atx. it doesn't want to shift right. it started out not shifting out of first (25 mph- max). then i cleaned some grounds (per BULLGEEK's advice) ,,now it won't shift out of second (35 mph-max). i am GONNA FIX THE PROBLEM, the big Q is, how long will it take and how much will it cost ?

Maybe Nick or major know what years will swap into a 95 Vulcan ax4n. Or check the Hollander Interchange if you can access. Iirc, every salvage yard uses the Hollander.

Huh. Wasn't aware that the AX4N was available before 1996. Interesting
