ok so i was driving down the freeway in my 2000 3.0 Taurus and it started to decelerate on me i pulled over and it was over heating i shut her down and looked it over. i had coolant puddled in my air box and in my manifold past the throttle body. any ideas what this could be. I am fairly experienced in the automotive department i originally suspected the heads but after thinking it over i have never seen a head gasket blow with coolant coming up the manifold it will go out the exhaust. anything helps I'm tearing in to it tonight thanks guys

I've heard of GM cars having problems with the intake gaskets going bad and coolant then leaking in there, but never on these. My guess is a really bad blown head gasket. Any coolant in the oil? Oil look milky?
Otherwise you just have a coolant leak somewhere that somehow got into the intake.

how about the coolant hoses right by the airbox...any high pressure leaks/holes spraying at air intake?

LIM has coolant passages, it may have failed there also, though I can't imagine how it could go against the flow of air in the intake...

ASSUMING the engine is a Vulcan (you dont say..... there are 2 different 3.0 engines, the OHV Vulcan and the 24V DOHC Duratec) the Vulcan LIM has coolant flowing thru it. I would pull the LIM and have a look.

When the LIM went on my Windstar I didnt get coolant in the air box or anthing along the way. Does the Vulcan have a coolant hose that is attached to the TB? Some Chevys have that to 'warm' the TB for those cold mornings to get the intake temps up. I know my G4 Duratec does not.
