transmission vent not blocked? -- with pictures

Hello

Ive been having problems with a mystery transmission leak that I now believe is comming from the vent pipe as once agian when i pulled the transmission dip stick it had fluid all the way up it and it had a burp of fluid come out when i pulled it ....

so i pulled the vent off my ax4n transmission hoping to see a block and I didnt see a thing in that copper pipe...
now maybe I just didnt know how to Seat the black plastic cap or something but it was not blocked .....

my questions are:
1- after a ford dealer transmission flush (2000 miles ago) could they have put to much fluid in the system causing it to get rid of it ?

2- has anyone had a blocked vent that was visible .... or maybe the black cap has always been the issue ....

3- could there be something worse lurking in this transmission causing that issue ? It shifts fine no kicks or anything ......

Thank you see vent picture attached for fun

Move the plastic/rubber cap up and down. You will feel there are 2 positions. Keep it in the lifted position. Someone had a problem when the cap was pushed down.

cap

hmm ya maybe I didnt have it in the right spot

I do notice the two positions I think it was clicked into far but it still had movement .......

I wonder If i could just rig up a pvc pipe around the master cylinder like the TSB...

Bring up an old thread. Working on a relative's 2002. Changed the fluid and it puked out about a quart in the driveway.Drivers side. Hmmm. From reading I inspected the transmission vent. No black cover on top just the brass fitting. The opening was clogged with grease. I cleaned it and ran a piece of coat hanger down it to make sure it was clear. Topped up the fluid and seems to be fine. When I change the oil next I will run the same piece of coat hanger into the vent to make sure it stays clear.

there is a fix for the vent issue... if you connect a hose and run it up around the master it will never have an issue again

Good tip thanks. I'll get some hose and a clamp ready for install at next oil change.

My car has suddenly started leaving transmission fluid on the ground - and the stick is slightly out each time.

Mine still has the rubber cap, but was pressed down all the way. Assuming the vent is clear, is there any reason you couldn't just attach a rubber hose to the existing vent and route it as the TSB states? (to save the $20 )

If the rubber cap is pressed down all the way, pull it up a click.
