Well, I finally changed to synthetic. After reading about the reviews here, and other forums, I decided to take the plunge!

After I did it, I realized I used 5W-30 instead of 5W-20. Is there an issue with this, and should I redo it?

Eric.

Ford spec'd the 2000+ cars with 5W-20 to get a very miniscule increase in MPG. I always ran 5W-30 in my Sable, Taurus, and my wife's Mazda, and will run 5W-30 when I do my first change in the Mustang. The only vehicle of those that was spec'd for 5W-30 was the Sable.

I run 5W30 in all my cars, even those that recommend 5W20. There are numerous threads about the differences in the 2 oils if you really wanna do the reading, but you'll be fine. I prefer the heavier oil, and the instructors at Ford school also say 5W20 is crap - "brown water" to use their words.

My next oil change is going to be 5w30 from now on, the 5w20 was to keep Ford happy with the warranty, pushrod engines shouldn't have any thinner than 5w30, unless you live in Canada in the winter.

No problem as stated earlier.

There are people that run 50w oils with no problems.

Thanks guy's. I'm headed to TN to live, so I will keep the heavier oil.

I run 10w40 in the summer, but thats cuz my engine is old, and probally shouldnt be running anymore. But before that I ran 5w30 just fine, and plan on using 5w30 synthetic in my SHO.

I live in Canada in the winter (well, all year) and i still wouldn't put 5W20 in my cars. 5W30 for me all the way.
