OEM auto dim mirror, mirrors w/ puddle lamps & autolamp switch

Would that be a plug and play on my '03 SES? I would think it would need some kind of sensor. Would that sensor be on the mirror you pulled?

Yes you would need a light sensor. I do not know if the sensor is in the mirror or not- I know that usually it goes on the dash. Maybe anyone else can help out?

There seems to be a little sensor on the back side of the mirror- it might be it. If we can't figure it out today then I will take a look at the mirror once I get back home & I can google the part number.

They aren't that rare. COmmon on the 2002-2003 models that are an LS Premium Sable or an SE, SES or SEL with the comfort/convenience package...or if they were ordered with heated mirror option as a fleet car. The light for the mirror was pretty much standard for those years.

You can yank out the heated mirror glass, strip the integral wiring harness of its two wires, and add it to your current mirror. There's a writeup in topic finder on how to take apart one of these mirrors.

AutoLamp install, there's a writeup on the Taurus Owners website. You'll need the sunload sensor and wiring from the dash (the black plastic dome front and center).

The mirror pictures for sale is auto-dim only, but the module there is for the compass (04+ have the compass readout in the message center on the instrument cluster).

I couldn't imagine them being that rare. I was downright pleased when I first unlocked the car at night and realized I had puddle lamps with the heated mirrors.

I will say having both puddle lamps and heated mirrors is a blessing when you're a college student forced to park outside. Here in North Dakota, things get windy and snowy almost every day during a solid winter, and it's nice to be able to dust the snow off your car and climb in and let the defrosters do the dirty work for you while you warm up.

Oh, adding to what nick said, if you have an 04 and up and want the compass feature in the info center, I am 99% sure you just splice the compass wires to pins 6 and 15 (the CAN bus) on the back of the cluster.

Nope.

Gota reprogram the cluster! Life ain't that easy on a 2004+... Just ask Brian and Kevin.

Easier to just get a Gentex 177 mirror or newer with compass function and splice in.
