I already hate autozone. I will not go there anymore. It's just a bit out of the way to go to advance auto, but they are better anyways.

Autozone idiots are just that...idiots. I never go there. Advance is literally 500 feet away from them anyways, and they are putting a Napa in about a quarter mile down the road. Oh yeah, and CarQuest is just a few miles away as well! Plenty of options. I also live less than a mile from the first three lol

Zero tolerance for guns?

I see where AutoZone is coming from.

But the PR backlash they are going to receive is going to really taint their image, especially with the hero being a veteran. Imagine how many fellow veterans and people in the military are now going to head over to Advance Auto and the like...word spreads quickly about this kind of stuff in 2012 thanks to the interwebs.

It's most likely a corporate thing. Probably no weapons on the premises made crystal clear in the rules, regs. & company policy that he probably had to sign and agree adhere to them as the terms of his employment......zero torarance and all. The guy did a good thing but if he signed he's screwed....zero tolerance zero recourse. Shame. Can any auto zone employee here verify this??? Does the store have a no weapons on the premises ban including cars on the Autozone property?

As a retail worker, I understand their position completely. They don't want their employees playing vigilante, quite possibly worsening the situation and endangering themselves, their coworkers, and customers. Not to mention the fact that in our lawsuit-happy nation, the robber or his/her family could've sued the company for quite a bit of money should they have been killed or seriously wounded by an employee going too far.

In this instance, Autozone is doing the intelligent thing. It would be one thing for a mom&pop outfit to let their employees carry arms, they have only a few employees anyway and can judge for themselves if those employees can handle a situation like that. Giant chains like Autozone don't have that ability, the only sensible option is to draw that line.

And every single national chain store/restaurant/whatever (aside from maybe a gun shop) has the same rule and would do the same thing. Every Single One.

Boycotting Autozone won't change that.

After reading this, I guess I can understand that a company as big as Autozone, how it would not be able to allow firearms within the store. If they were to do that then that would mean that they would have to train every one of there employees to not only how to handle a firearm but what to do in such a situation. That's a lot of training and probably intimidating to a lot of would be employees. But I'm sorry I do not agree to the firing of someone just for trying to save the life of another. Steering clear of this company is nothing new to me anyways.

Many companies have a "zero tolerance" weapons policy. The one I work for does. No firearms, ammunition, or knives allowed on company property. Now, the policy wasn't openly stated, but a search brought it up for me to review. I'm sure that if they were aware that I have one with me at work everyday, there would be an issue, but my life is more important than my job. People are pretty unstable these days.

There's a pizza joint not too far from here near Estes Park, CO. If you open or conceal carry in there (you can show a permit, or your weapon), they give you a discount.
